Even though no students go near the beehive unsupervised, some still feel a little apprehension about getting stung. As we research, we have learned that not all bees even have stingers! \r\n\r\nFrom the youngest to the oldest students, everyone is benefitting from Don't Bee Afraid - even the principal. When the students learned that Principal H was afraid of bees, I charged each of them to learn one new thing about bees to help her be less afraid. They ran away with this and now she can't go one school day without a student or 2 sharing a fact about bees with her. My students use them during independent work, reading activities, small-group instruction, and quiet breaks. Having a comfortable seating option gives students the opportunity to choose a space where they can focus and participate in learning.\r\n\r\nWhen the bean bag chairs first arrived, my students were so excited to see them in our classroom. They immediately wanted to try them out, and it was wonderful to see their excitement turn into meaningful learning. One special moment has been watching students use the bean bags during reading time. They settle into their chairs, choose a book, and enjoy reading in a comfortable space.\r\n\r\nThe bean bags have also helped my students practice making appropriate choices and becoming more independent. They are learning that different seating options can help them feel comfortable and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue using the bean bags as part of our daily classroom routines while working on current reading and academic activities. I am grateful to our donors for providing a resource that has brought comfort, excitement, and increased engagement into our classroom. As the photos show, we have many seedlings already sprouted and more to come. As our plants are hardened and ready to go outside, our outdoor bed will be ready and waiting. Everyone is SOOOOOO eager for spring.\r\n\r\nHere is how we are using the materials. Inside the greenhouse under grow lights, we have started 144 seedlings of various summer vegetables. We are learning about the amount of light they need and how to maintain moisture and temperature levels inside the greenhouse. Once they are ready for transplanting, we will prepare the outdoor raised be using a method called \"hugelkultur\" - creating raised beds with rotting wood and other biodegradeable materials below a layer of compost and soil. We will use the gear to build our skills in our favorite sport and learn more about Newton's Laws of Motion. This gift is especially important since, as you can see from our pictures, we do not have a gym at school so we practice where we can - in hallways, stairwells, our lunchroom, etc. The elastic trappers are especially valuable as we don't have to chase the balls down. \r\nAnother benefit of being awarded this grant is to help my students understand philanthropy - benefitting others when you are able to do so. Today in Room 208, the phrase \"my seat\" is a term of endearment.\r\nCome In and Take Your Seat was a request to help me personalize my classroom to meet the needs of different sized people with different comfort needs. As soon as the items arrived, they immediately began exploring the different height options and experimenting with the flexible seating. These additions have made our classroom feel more comfortable, modern, and student-centered. The ball chair has especially been helpful for students who need movement or sensory support, allowing them to focus better while still feeling relaxed.\r\n\r\nThese adjustable desks have already made a huge impact in our student-led café. Because the tables can be raised or lowered so easily, students are able to shift into different groups, collaborate more naturally, and rearrange the space depending on the task. Whether they're working on menus, practicing customer service, or managing orders, the new setup gives them the freedom to work in ways that feel comfortable and efficient.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving our students learning tools that support independence, creativity, and teamwork.
