There was so much excitement brewing when the electrician and and plumber were in our building installing the unit, and the moment everything was ready to use, we had a line at the fountain! Students and staff are smiling and refilling their water bottles by going to this specific station. I've heard so many positive comments about how \"cool\" and \"refreshing\" the water station is\r\n\r\nSince the fountain was installed over a week ago, we have refilled the equivalent of 150+ bottles of water. Students have enjoyed the refreshing taste of cold, filtered water in between classes. More students have been bringing reusable water bottles to school now that they say the water tastes \"good.\" \r\n\r\nTo the generous donors of this project, we give a huge, heartfelt THANK YOU because you supported an idea that really benefits the entire school community.","fullyFundedDate":1746787045382,"projectUrl":"project/quench-our-thirst-clean-cool-h20-for-t/9196764/","projectTitle":"Quench Our Thirst! Because of your generosity, students were able to read the book, share what they learned, and have a glimpse into the life of the wild horses that roamed the plains in the 1800's. Furthermore, they learned about the horses of the Pony Express, where they traveled and how they were captured. \r\n\r\nThey shared their understanding of how horses live together in a band-not a rock band, but a community of horses that work together and protect one another. They learned that horses are similar to us, as they are creatures who take care of their young and must meet their needs for survival while protecting their home. \r\n\r\nOne student made an insightful observation, noting that while horses are very smart and can be very helpful to humans, they also want to roam free, just like them. Students also noticed, that like themselves, horses are curious creatures who make observations to learn about their environment and to find a suitable habitat. \r\n\r\nThank you again, for making this learning experience possible. It has inspired my students and given them a greater appreciation for the natural world.","fullyFundedDate":1745537004386,"projectUrl":"project/whales-wolves-horses-oh-my/9248260/","projectTitle":"Whales, Wolves, Horses Oh My!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Towner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp187772_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1456367820794","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ksharp"},{"teacherId":187772,"projectId":8733271,"letterContent":"We have finally gotten our bots built and rolling. All the parts have been put together and wired correctly. One of the greatest pluses to come out of this was my students' opportunity to practice their problem solving skills. \r\n The first challenge was for students to get their bots to move from one side of the room to the other. Students worked together by checking their wiring and code. One team was able to get their bots moving, but found that each wheel moved in the opposite direction of each, causing their bots to go in a circle. They were able to figure out that they had wired and connected the motors incorrectly. They had to test and retest to get the wheels moving in the same direction. \r\n Many students have had little experience in coding. For some it was their first time using block coding and found it challenging. Once the first challenge was tackled, they were able to modify the code to get their bots to turn left and right. I learned some are awesome coders, while others enjoy putting the different parts together. There is so much more to explore with building bots and gaining a greater understanding of the intricacies of programming an object to do exactly what you want it to do. \r\nStudents are learning that what you put into a system is what you get out. Details are important and you must test and test again. Thank you so much for helping to provide this opportunity to my students. It is different from developing a code on a screen and seeing how it actually works when it is carried out. It gave students a chance to see what's behind all the action.","fullyFundedDate":1730299455351,"projectUrl":"project/microbit-bot-builders/8733271/","projectTitle":"Microbit Bot Builders","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Towner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp187772_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1456367820794","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ksharp"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_5589","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":227,"numTeachers":18,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":84,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":70.4,"schoolId":5589,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Albany Park Multicultural Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Albany Park Multicultural Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/chicago-public-school-district-299/albany-park-multicultural-acad/5589"}
