Now, every phonics and morphology skill has its own designated space, with all of the books, games, dictation materials, and activities I need organized together. When my students walked into my room and saw the new organization for the first time, they were amazed! I heard lots of \"Wow, it looks so nice in here!\" as they looked around and saw how everything had a place. It was so sweet to see them notice the difference and get excited about our reading space.\r\n\r\nThe new organization has made such a huge difference in our daily lessons. I teach 14 different groups and often work with a different skill in each group, so being able to quickly grab exactly what I need is incredibly important. For example, if we are working on the ai/ay spelling pattern, I can pull the numbered ai/ay folder and immediately have the books, games, dictation materials, and activities I need right in front of me. Instead of spending valuable instructional time searching for materials, I can begin teaching right away. That means more time practicing skills, reading, building fluency, and working toward becoming independent readers.\r\n\r\nI am so incredibly grateful to the donors who made this project possible. Your support has made my job easier, but more importantly, it has made it possible for me to give my students more of my time, energy, and attention. Your kindness has already made a meaningful difference. In just these first nine weeks, I have learned so much, including strategies to help older students improve their reading fluency once phonics skills are in place, new ways to assess and identify the specific gaps that continue to hold struggling readers back, and how to apply my previous training more effectively. Every piece of this knowledge is strengthening my ability to support students who need it most.\r\n\r\nOne of the greatest blessings of this experience has been working with my son, Kendrick, who is my practicum student. His progress has been incredible. He has increased 20 words per minute in just 10 weeks. I attended a training to become an instructor of the Orton-Gillingham Morphology Plus program this summer. I knew this program would change the lives of my students with special needs who struggle with phonics, spelling, and comprehension.\r\nI started the year introducing Anglo-Saxon Bases and simple affixes. Once they achieved mastery of those, we have now begun working with Latin bases. I am seeing incredible gains in working vocabulary, and spelling is more accurate than ever. \r\nThis program will be what I video record for my National Boards entry two. I must demonstrate that I have completed ongoing education or professional development to serve my student population better. This program has been a beautiful example of that. Without your support, I would not be able to share the program with the readers of the National Board committee. Sharing this with others who lead our classrooms of special needs students and allowing them to see another tool in their toolkit is a blessing for me. We have started our first learning unit, which is on fables. The students have loved looking at all the extra fables that you've provided.\r\n\r\nWe started by reading The Boy Who Cried Wolf, and the students loved it. We practiced our vocabulary word \"startled\" with a mystery game where the students lifted cups and found either candy or a creepy plastic bug that startled them. Then we comparerd different versions of the fable using all of our extra books.\r\n\r\nOur second fable was \"The Maid and the Milk Pail,\" and students loved balancing books on their head just like Peggy did in the story with her milk. They also built bridges for plastic teddy bears to balance on, which they loved. \r\n\r\nWe've added in lots of time for reading and writing as well. I am confident that you have increased my students' love of learning with your generous donation. I can't wait to get through all of our units!\r\n\r\nThank you for making this happen for my wonderful students.
