Your kindness has brought excitement, joy, and meaningful learning opportunities to our students through these new books.\r\n\r\nThese new texts help students build important skills such as comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, critical thinking, and discussion skills. Students are learning how to make predictions, identify themes, analyze characters, ask thoughtful questions, and support their ideas with evidence from the text. The books also encourage students to make connections between reading and their own lives.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and engaging. You will see students gathered in literature circles discussing characters and plot, partners reading aloud together, students independently curled up with books they chose themselves, or small groups working on comprehension strategies. Our classroom is filled with conversations about books, excitement over favorite characters, and students recommending stories to one another.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially connected with the new books. Some reluctant readers are now eager to pick up a book during independent reading time, while other students have discovered genres and authors they truly enjoy. It has been wonderful to watch students become more confident readers and enthusiastic learners because of the opportunities your donation has provided.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in our students and helping foster a love of reading in our classroom. We still have half the year to go, but in that short time, we have already done so much. Students have used the Mr. Sketch markers for drawing and coloring images they created using polygons on coordinate planes. They have created objects for 2 separate projects using the air-dry clay - artifacts for ancient American civilizations for a museum exhibit and creating models of Native American tools. For each of those projects, the students have used the paints, trays, and brushes as well. Next semester, we will be using the posterboards, paints, and markers to make a timeline of the entire United States!\r\n\r\nThroughout the past several months, I have heard several things from students that stand out regarding the supplies. One of my favorites was, \"We never get to use clay in any of our other classes!\" Another that made me smile was, \"I love that we get to do projects instead of so many worksheets.\" If it wasn't for these supplies, the likelihood of students enjoying their at this level would be much less likely.\r\n\r\nI cannot truly express to all of you the impact you have made in these students' lives. There have been students who have traditionally avoided work or were completely disengaged that have improved their participation and are getting work done. For one or two, the projects are the only work that they willingly complete. In my professional opinion, keeping students engaged in their learning is more important than the content itself.","fullyFundedDate":1759429788081,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-project-supplies/9710362/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Project Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Young","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5876299_orig.jpg?crop=1227,1228,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1565197602692","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5876299"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_67103","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":529,"numTeachers":27,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":61,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":26,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"19.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":78.1,"schoolId":67103,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hacker Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hacker Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/idaho/mountain-home-school-district-193/hacker-middle-school/67103"}
