The snacks, candy, and toys you funded have been a total game-changer for my classroom. Learning a new language takes so much courage and stamina, and these small rewards are exactly what my students need to keep their energy up and stay focused during long learning blocks.\r\n\r\nThe kids are absolutely loving the new goodies, and they get SO excited to do our weekly prize drawing! It has created such a fun, positive culture where everyone wants to participate and take risks. We also used these treats to celebrate the students for getting through the WIDA ACCESS test. It is a really long, exhausting test, so having snacks helped keep their spirits high. Plus, it was pure joy to give a bonus prize to the students who successfully exited the language program this year!\r\n\r\nThese simple incentives have done wonders for building their confidence and helping them associate hard work with celebration. You have completely changed the energy in our classroom, and the kids ask me every single day if they can read these new books. Our reading groups have become so much more beneficial because every student finally feels successful when reading. Building confidence like that is so amazing to watch, especially for a few of my older boys who used to completely shut down because they were embarrassed to be seen reading baby books meant for young kids.\r\n\r\nThe students read these books to keep practicing the skills we learn during intervention time, covering skills like CVC words and irregular words. They are such a great tool for practicing independent reading because they look like big kid books, but are written at a level my students can actually access. On top of that, the realistic pictures and topics are excellent for building vocabulary and background information, helping my multilingual learners connect new English words to concepts they already know.\r\n\r\nOur classroom is a happy place during reading time now. They have made such a difference with focus since they allow for movement during our lessons.
