Im trying to get them to get their homework and backpacks and clean up and they are standing around in groups talking and generally ignoring me. How can this be they are so good the rest of the day? Well its because that 15-20 min is not structured enough. \r\n We got our Scholastic News \"we call them our newspaper\" and suddenly all kids are reading. They read it to themselves first then we read them together. Even kids who are not up to the reading level are looking at the interesting pictures and graphics and are quiet. Occasionally they burst out something because they are excited about the content. \r\n This weeks News was about Maryland designating the Megladon the state shark. Great content had all their attention. Now they are learning instead of me playing catch up. Now they only have 5 min and they are hurring to go home and not running around. Thank you so much.
