Your donation immediately helped us transform our learning environment. I was so excited to use the flipchart easel right away—previously, I had to struggle to tape charts to my bookshelf! Now, having the chart properly hung has already amazed my students; they were so happy to see the visual information clearly displayed.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, the laminator is a game-changer! Not only can I create durable, high-quality flashcards that look great and won't fade, but I no longer have to spend valuable teaching time walking all the way to the library just to laminate. This newfound efficiency means our essential visual aids and hands-on tools are ready faster, allowing me to focus more time on accelerating student learning and confidence this year. Some commented that the name badges seemed 'legit' like 'real ID badge holders like on TV or the movies'. I demonstrated how the testing dividers would be used in their cooperative Challenger Center lessons, along with the Post-It Notes -- they wanted to jump right into the lessons rather than wait until after Fall Break.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the upper grades 3-6 also showed enthusiasm for their 'newer, bigger journals' as compared to the previous iterations (previous versions were unavailable for purchase). Lastly, the Rubbermaid plastic storage will replace some sadly broken or breaking storage solutions that already existed in my room.\r\n\r\nTo sum up, the materials from this project will allow my students K-6 to experience an enhanced learning environment with quality materials on par (or better) than their private school counterparts. They usually have black and white worksheets that I just xerox. It was nice to give them a color worksheet...it won't be everytime but a once in a while thing. The children were very happy when they got the worksheets in color! So funny how the little things like a color worksheet can brighten their day!\r\nHaving access to color printing helps me to print master samples to use for whole class lessons as well. I am able to print and laminate these master samples to use year after year.\r\nI am truly grateful for the color printer as it is an asset to my lessons and the children's learning. The resources were helpful not only for brain breaks but also for studying for the upcoming test. The resources boost the morale in the classroom as testing can get very overwhelming for my students. They were able to use the resources to help them prepare for the weeks of testing and also use the resources for those breaks they needed in between the testing times to eliminate feeling so overwhelmed. \r\n\r\nThe studentsʻ reactions when they saw the resources were with a lot of excitement. The students knew that there are a lot of activities and resources they could use in their centers to practice the skills they would have on their tests and also for the fun activities they could use when they are on a brain break and it also when they finish their work. The resources help my classroom with meeting different learner needs to help with the skills they were acquiring during the school year and also for the readiness of the upcoming big test for our school.\r\n\r\nStudents will take these skills and resources to carry on to their next grade level as our school year comes to an end. They will continue to grow and it will be shared to expand to their next classroom. My students and I are incredibly grateful for the donated items as it was beneficial in their learning and practice to help with their testing at the end of the school year. They approached the challenge with enthusiasm and had to think critically about how to design their structures within the limitations of the LEGO pieces available in the bin. This process required problem-solving skills as they figured out how to ensure their structures could securely hold the marker while in motion.\r\n\r\nThroughout the testing and rebuilding phase, students demonstrated resilience, \r\nespecially when their initial designs failed as DASH moved. We discovered that using rubber bands provided additional support for some teams, while others successfully created strong structures that remained intact without extra assistance.\r\n\r\nIn addition to building, students learned to control the robots using block coding. They were encouraged to explore the coding process and figure out how to program DASH to utilize the marker effectively, with most teams achieving success.\r\n\r\nThis project not only fostered creativity but also helped students develop essential skills in coding, problem-solving, and critical thinking. The smaller group sizes facilitated effective communication among students and allowed everyone to participate actively.\r\n\r\nThanks to your contributions, my students have engaged in hands-on projects that foster creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. The excitement and enthusiasm they displayed while using the robots and building with LEGOs are invaluable.","fullyFundedDate":1741963339673,"projectUrl":"project/code-create-and-construct-engaging-el/9158484/","projectTitle":"Code, Create, and Construct: Engaging Elementary Students with Dash Robots","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mossman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7715014_orig.png?crop=1002,1002,x13,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1730248078575","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7715014"},{"teacherId":9966966,"projectId":9157920,"letterContent":"I told my students that these supplies were generously donated, and they were so excited when I showed them! My students are hard workers and with the resources, I was able to provide some incentives to motivate them even more. The resources help organize my classroom with labeling student areas, promote visuals for math and language arts, incentives (fidgets, snacks, etc.) for effort, and activities (ring toss, etc.) to promote movement and teamwork. My students were able to participate in multiple activities across content areas to promote effective use of time and working efficiently with one another. \r\nMy students were so excited and the motivation in the classroom was higher than ever. They are very thankful because the resources are essential in their learning. They continue to use the resources daily and continue to be motivated in their learning. \r\nThe next steps for my students on the current classroom lessons is to continue to make sure that the resources keep the morale and motivation beyond the incentives, but understand that the resources has been beneficial in their learning and understand when given the opportunity for the use of resources at the school, they respect the items even if they have not brought it.
