With the return to full in-person learning this year, along with the fact that my students are brand-new to Middle School, I want to make my STEM class as engaging as possible. Studies also show that Middle School is where girls lose their love for STEM-related subjects. I want to fix this by showing a variety of technologies, and resin 3D printing is the newest innovation in 3D printing. The issue with most resin printing, however, has traditionally been with the toxicity of the resins. The newest resins are plant-based and therefore significantly safer for both the environment and the classroom. It is my hope that my students can turn their ideas into safe, eco-friendly, and bio-degradable 3D printed items. With these materials, we can do several units on researching more traditional resin print materials and how the newest soy-based resins are superior for classroom use, in addition to being better for the planet.
