The new technology and tools we've received—like the laminator, label maker, paper cutter, glue gun, and whiteboard sticker—have transformed the way students interact with materials and with each other. What used to take extra time and effort now happens seamlessly, allowing students to focus on creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. Even our simplest supplies, like colorful tape, sticky notes, and dry erase markers, have made lessons more interactive, encouraging students to move around, share ideas, and express their thinking in new ways.\r\n\r\nThe excitement from students has been palpable. They love using the mic during presentations to amplify their voices, which has boosted their confidence and made sharing their ideas feel special. Group projects have become more collaborative and fun, and the organization systems—cubby bins, labels, and well-prepared materials—help students take responsibility for their learning and feel proud of their classroom. Students who sometimes struggle to participate are now more willing to engage, knowing they have the right tools and support to succeed.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project has made our classroom a place where every student feels empowered. The technology and resources allow each student to shine, express their creativity, and take ownership of their learning. Thanks to your donation, my 7th-grade Life Science students, who learn in a dynamic and inclusive setting here in Hawai'i, experienced one of the most engaging, joyful, and impactful science units we have ever had.\r\n\r\nThe moment the liquid chalk markers arrived, my students' faces lit up with curiosity and excitement. As a teacher in an inclusion setting, where students range from high-achieving gifted learners to those receiving special education services, it is always my goal to create lessons that are equitable, hands-on, and responsive to diverse learning styles. The liquid chalk tools allowed us to transform our lab tables into interactive canvases and spaces for sketching, labeling, visualizing, and most importantly, collaborating.\r\n\r\nOur unit on human body systems was where the magic truly happened. Students were divided into teams and challenged to diagram the human heart, lungs, brain, and digestive system using liquid chalk right on their lab tables. Each group was responsible for researching the structure and function of the system, drawing it to scale, labeling its parts accurately, and then presenting their diagrams to the class.\r\n\r\nOne of my students, who often struggles to focus due to ADHD, became the lead illustrator for his group's diagram of the circulatory system. Using the bright, bold liquid chalk, he sketched a beautifully detailed heart, complete with directional arrows that showed blood flow. For the first time, he was confident, focused, and even stayed after class to refine the drawing. Another student, who receives SPED support, participated by selecting color-coded markers and pointing out correct labels from a laminated word bank we created. His group cheered for him during their presentation.\r\n\r\nThis project didn't just engage students, it empowered them. They were no longer passive receivers of textbook information. They became artists, teachers, and collaborators. They had rich academic conversations about the function of valves, the purpose of the alveoli, or how neurons transmit signals. The liquid chalk made learning visible, tactile, and meaningful.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful moments came during our pre-dissection lab. Using chalk, students drew and labeled a sheep's heart and a human heart side by side on the table. This visual preparation gave all learners, especially those with learning differences, the confidence to approach the actual dissection the following day with understanding and curiosity rather than hesitation.\r\n\r\nI am immensely thankful to the Benioff Foundation and the Hawai'i Department of Education not only for providing these materials but also for believing in teacher-led innovation. Your investment in this project has had a direct and lasting impact on student engagement, comprehension, and classroom culture. It reaffirmed my passion for inclusive, inquiry-based science instruction.\r\n\r\nMahalo for helping bring science to life in my classroom and for supporting our keiki, making learning unforgettable.\r\n\r\nWith heartfelt appreciation,\r\nMs. Leilani Roberts\r\n7th Grade Life Science Teacher\r\nHawai'i State Department of Education","fullyFundedDate":1742144571197,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-science-to-life-interactive-li/9171498/","projectTitle":"Bringing Science To Life: Interactive Liquid Chalk Diagrams for Discovery!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Roberts","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9968821_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753121545065","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9968821"},{"teacherId":8826602,"projectId":9161448,"letterContent":"Thank you for funding my project!
