Before receiving these materials, many students did not have notebooks, which made it difficult to take notes, show work, or keep track of problem-solving strategies from day to day. In a math classroom, where learning builds step-by-step, not having a place to write and organize thinking was a major barrier.\r\n\r\nWhen students first received their notebooks, their excitement was immediate. For many, this was the first time they had a dedicated space for math. Almost right away, I saw a shift in engagement; students were writing more, attempting problems they might have previously skipped, and feeling more confident showing their work. Having pencils readily available also removed the hesitation of \"I don't have one,\" allowing lessons to start smoothly and stay focused on learning.\r\n\r\nWe now use these notebooks daily for guided notes, worked examples, practice problems, and reflection on mistakes—an essential part of developing mathematical understanding. Students are beginning to reference earlier pages, notice patterns in their thinking, and take more ownership of their progress. The next step is helping students use their notebooks as a study and reference tool, preparing them for assessments and building skills they'll carry into future math courses. Thanks to our donors, every student now has the tools they need to fully participate and grow as math learners.","fullyFundedDate":1758068530378,"projectUrl":"project/math-supplies-for-students-who-show-up-e/9456921/","projectTitle":"Math Supplies for Students Who Show Up Empty-Handed","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Byron Bass","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7755240"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_123794","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":138,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":51,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":30,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":0.0,"schoolId":123794,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Kapolei Charter School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Kapolei Charter School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/hawaii/leeward-oahu-school-district/kapolei-charter-school/123794"}
