Large, visually appealing words and pictures bring stories to life in a more engaging and inviting way, helping all students see clearly and make stronger connections to the text. This is especially important compared to reading from an average-sized book, where students may struggle to see the pictures clearly or, even more limiting, where they only hear the words without the visual support.\r\n\r\nThese books also ensure that the first experiences with text are positive and exciting, sparking enthusiasm for language acquisition through exposure to diverse stories and literary narratives. Having these materials helps create the right environment for me as an educator to bring stories to life, express the emotions within them, and share the same joy of storytelling that I grew up loving. They couldn't wait to sit on the rug and do their work, they were trying to sit on the carpet for every reason possible weather it was for reading, writing reflections, completing field trip observations or coloring. When the bean bags came in, my students were ecstatic to see what was in the box. When we received the package in the mail, I made it a surprise and had my students guess what was in the box. The students thought it was going to be a new table, a new white board, a new mattress or a squishmellow. I had the students close their eyes, when I told them to open their eyes, their reaction was priceless with screams of joy. We are also storing a lot of paper in the school supply rack, because there are 10 drawers, we were able to organize all the colored paper in each corresponding color drawer. \r\n At Kawaikini, our curriculum is based on the history of the island of Kauaʻi back when there was Kingdom law in the islands of Hawaiʻi. Twice a month each class goes on a field trip to learn about a certain location on the island of Kauaʻi and it's history. The third grade uses the information they learn from these field trip and write a four paragraph reflection paper. They start off by writing down what they see in their observation book, when we return to the class room they organize their observations into three sections, the first is Papahulilani, which is everything we see in the sky. The second is Papahulihonua, which is all natural resources and landscape. The third is Papahānaumoku which is all living organisms. After separating their observations, the students then use a graphic organizer to organize their thoughts. Once organized, the students then write the sentences from the graphic organizer to a lined paper, creating paragraphs. Once proof read and correct, students are then able to type out their 4 paragraph paper. \r\n Students have been sitting on the carpet and bean bags provided by Donors choose during this writing process.
