Although recent hurricane and flooding have temporarily delayed our off-campus excursions, our new iPad has allowed us to bring those island voyages right to our desks. Students are currently using the device as an interactive learning station to explore and map out landmarks on campus, and learn the basics of video editing. This hands-on process helps them synthesize social studies and language arts concepts in a way that static worksheets simply cannot match, building technical skills that prepare them for the future.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting aspect of the iPad for my students is its power to transform how they demonstrate what they know. The anticipation of taking this mobile studio into the field has brought an incredible energy to our everyday research. They love testing out the camera features with one another. This also helps with their writing and reading fluency as students are able to record each other and listen back to make any necessary improvements. \r\n\r\nThis technology has particularly empowered our visual and multi-modal learners, including a few students who often struggle with traditional lecture-style lessons. Having access to an intuitive touchscreen interface has allowed them to engage directly with lesson content through audio recording and video sequencing, boosting their confidence tremendously.
