Our students have been able to make great use of the new resources. We were able to use flexible seating in the classroom to be able to do more small group activities. It has helped the class get out of their seats and get moving around the room while learning at the same time. \r\n\r\nOne of the projects that we recently did was an animal research project. The students had to do choose a animal of their choice, do their own research on it reading a book about it and then using an online resource to find out more about it. After the students borrowed a book from the library, they were able to choose whether to read it at their desk or sit in one of the flexible seating options. \r\n\r\nThe students were so excited to have bean bags in the classroom in the reading corner to use. It gave the students a sense of independence while working on their project. They had the power to choose a different way of learning for what worked best for them.","fullyFundedDate":1740423483968,"projectUrl":"project/moving-and-learning/9127605/","projectTitle":"Moving and Learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wong","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9927045"},{"teacherId":9373816,"projectId":8890712,"letterContent":"Thank you for all of the new materials that you donated to my speech classroom! We have more opportunities to tell stories, use different games and materials to produce our speech sounds, using the buzzers to encourage socialization and participation in the speech room, as well as the whiteboard to draw or write things on the fly. My students are utilizing all of the stories and cannot wait to continue the series of \"The Pigeon Goes...\" or \"Llama Llama\". \r\n\r\nIn speech, I always want to read new stories to my students and try out new activities to engage their vocabulary, storytelling abilities, and story element knowledge. Receiving all of these new books and materials will help me to organize the books and activities together and to reuse these next school year and years to come. As a fairly new speech pathologist, I am always looking for new ideas and methods to use to treat students with language delays or speech sound disorders. All of these materials will help me to come up with new ideas and impact the futures of these children.","fullyFundedDate":1729435436015,"projectUrl":"project/we-love-speech-therapy/8890712/","projectTitle":"We Love Speech Therapy!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Erin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9373816"},{"teacherId":7941043,"projectId":8897394,"letterContent":"Thank you for investing in my students this year. My students in grades K-3 have enjoyed working with the magnetic foam tiles to build words. Students are more engaged in the spelling lessons because they are able to manipulate the tiles quickly and seem more willing to experiment with different letter combinations to form new words. Without realizing it, students are relying on their phonics skills to match the letters to sounds when creating the words. They have also noticed the color coding on the tiles which has allowed them to grow their understanding about how words are made. For instance, every word has a red tile (vowel) or a purple tile (vowel team). They are making these observations and owning their own learning. \r\n\r\nThe High Interest - Low Readability chapter books have been encouraging for the upper grade students. Although they may be reading at a first or second grade level, they do not want to be seen reading simple picture books. These chapter books have motivated my students to sit down and read without embarrassment. One of my discouraged readers is now asking to read the next chapter book on the shelf. His confidence in his reading ability has improved and has boosted his ability to listen and apply new reading strategies using these chapter books. \r\n\r\nHaving students find joy in reading and spelling has made a wonderful impact on their progress in the classroom. They look forward to working with the materials purchased with your generous donation. Thank you for believing in their potential.","fullyFundedDate":1729736890228,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-solid-foundation-in-reading/8897394/","projectTitle":"Building a Solid Foundation in Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kodama-Nii","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7941043"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_50865","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":314,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":13,"percentAsian":47,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":93.1,"schoolId":50865,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Nu'uanu Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Nu'uanu Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/hawaii/honolulu-school-district/nuuanu-elementary-school/50865"}
