They have really taken to the equipment, and some asked if they could make slides with other materials. One students used a passion flower petal and the results were amazing!\r\n\r\nFor Human Physiology, I plan to have students produce thin sections of a variety of animal tissues. I'm very excited!\r\n\r\nAs you can see, these microtomes will get a lot of use. My students really appreciate how easy they are to use and how much more comfortable they are for reading from heavy textbooks. Strained necks are a thing of the past!\r\n\r\nThe book stands are available as soon as students enter the classroom, right next to the door. Kids are starting to automatically grab one on their way to their seats. I've even seen one student use two, side by side, to hold open their binder.\r\n\r\nAn added benefit is that by using the book stands, students' desk space is used more efficiently. They are a perfect addition to my curriculum, because getting the kids outside, into the environment we are studying makes the most sense. But without the proper equipment, an outdoor lesson can quickly turn into a free-for-all. \r\n\r\nOnce the students were introduced to the quadrats, their precise dimensions, and how they are used, they understood the pvc pipes were actually scientific instruments. This added to the credibility of the outdoor investigation, and the kids took it more seriously. \r\n\r\nThese quadrats that will definitely stand the test of time and be standard equipment in my curriculum for years to come.
