Reading in our room is no longer a solitary, passive task; it has become a vibrant, shared experience. We often engage in \"Socratic Seminars\" where students lead the discussion, grappling with the book's heavy themes of social inequality and media influence. Seeing every student with their own physical copy has created a sense of equity and pride, allowing us to annotate together and dive deep into the text without the barrier of shared or digital screens.\r\n\r\nBeyond the excitement of the plot, these novels serve as a powerful tool for teaching critical analysis and civic empathy. We are using Katniss Everdeen's journey to explore complex literary concepts like the \"Anti-Hero\" and the use of symbolism in political propaganda. Students aren't just reading for the \"what\"—they are investigating the \"why,\" looking at how the author uses the setting of Panem to mirror real-world issues. This has been particularly impactful for my students who previously struggled to connect with traditional \"classics.\" They are now staying after the bell rings to debate character choices, showing a level of engagement and sophisticated thought that proves how the right book can unlock a student's potential.","fullyFundedDate":1746785559228,"projectUrl":"project/buy-a-class-set-of-novels-the-hunger-ga/9254592/","projectTitle":"Buy a Class Set of Novels: The Hunger Games","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carhart","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9357542_orig.jpg?crop=2079,2079,x0,y166&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1771534460529","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9357542"},{"teacherId":515141,"projectId":10046610,"letterContent":"Mahalo for helping us to get the supplies we need to have a thriving raised bed garden and being able to grow many different things that we eat, cook and share with others. Because of your generosity, our classroom now has headphones to support early college coursework, along with professional table covers, backdrop stands, curtains, and laminating supplies that allow us to host events that truly honor our students' hard work. Your support has made it possible for us to elevate both learning and celebration in ways we could not have done on our own.\r\nThe headphones have already made a difference for students enrolled in early college and online coursework by giving them a quiet, focused way to engage with lectures, assignments, and virtual discussions. Many of our students are balancing rigorous academics with extracurricular activities and responsibilities at home, so having reliable classroom technology helps them stay on track and confident in their learning. Students have shared how much easier it is to concentrate and participate when they have tools designed just for them.\r\nEqually exciting is the impact these supplies have had on our senior events. College and career fairs, senior interviews, awards nights, and school-wide celebrations now feel polished, organized, and truly special.
