Each student was responsible for sharing work but leading the organization of one part of the project. When surveyed, 100% of my students said they enjoyed trying out different roles on a team, and the advice they gave was to compromise, stay positive, and always try to help, even when things were tough. Some students even suggested taking 'mindful minutes' if they were frustrated as a way to help their team reach each mini-engineering project goal! In other words, my students practiced a lot of collaboration and communication strategies and developed new ways to work together to solve challenges. \r\n\r\nMy students enjoyed building and testing all of the cars, and during testing, they also discovered that careful inspection of parts can lead to less friction, making the cars go faster. In the propultion ball machine lab, several students commented that it was their first time using a screw driver and by this lab, students were able to build their own data table to test how well their prototype worked. Additionally, students enjoyed developing their biomechanics claw and realized connections back to our first quarter unit on health in how the muscles and tendons work together. Currently, my students are working on another lab where each team gets to choose what interests them most (another type of vehicle, building a radio, tension tower, music box, building a multiplication machine, etc). Students have been looking forward to the variety of choices they have in small teams for the last lab, where they get to pursue some of their interests and curiosity. \r\n\r\nThank you SO much for your donation.
