In the past, the dry air from the ventilation system caused frequent discomfort and respiratory issues for my students, leading to missed school days. Now, the air feels noticeably more comfortable, and the calming aromatherapy feature has become a vital part of our daily sensory routine. By maintaining a healthy humidity level, my students are staying healthy, breathing easier, and remaining in the classroom where they can participate in essential learning and therapy.\r\n\r\nThe variety of snacks has also had a profound impact on our daily transitions and behavioral success. For my students with ASD, having access to specific textures and high-protein options like beef jerky and cereal bars provides the sensory input and \"fuel\" they need to stay regulated. These items have become powerful tools for positive reinforcement, helping students reach their individual goals with a smile. The Kinetic Sand, slime, and squishies provide the deep, predictable sensory input our students need to navigate moments of anxiety. We have seen a remarkable shift in independence; instead of losing learning time to sensory overload, students are now using these tools to self-regulate and return to their lessons with a sense of calm and focus.\r\n\r\nBeyond emotional regulation, your donation has breathed new life into our daily academic and developmental goals. The Race Track Toys have become a hub for cooperative play and logical sequencing, while the Wooden Puzzles and Electric Keyboard provide the tactile and auditory engagement necessary for mastering literacy and counting. And when they are sad, they rock slowly which is very soothing and calming for them. \r\n\r\nAnd the manipulatives for the light up table provide not only visual inputs but also tactile inputs. Manipulatives and card sets now have a clear home so students can quickly access materials without digging through crowded cabinets and opening every door before finding what they need. One specific moment I can recall was a partner rotation that focused on multiplication fluency. I set up multiple stations and 3 of them were dominos, dice multiplication, and Salute multiplication with cards. Since these materials were so accessible from the new bookshelf, transitions were smooth and instruction time increased.\r\n\r\nThe students were so excited to see the new shelf and materials when they walked in the next day. The pocket charts now make morphology fun and it's easier to locate with the colored pocket charts. Students love matching the red, yellow, and green cards to the charts. The board games have been a wonderful addition to our indoor recess time, giving students a fun and engaging way to relax, socialize, and practice positive behavior when we can't go outside. Each student now has their own large plastic book bin to store supplies, which has helped keep our classroom organized and made it easier for students to take responsibility for their materials.\r\n\r\nStudents were thrilled when they first saw the new items, especially the rubber duck incentives. Earning a duck has been highly motivating and has encouraged positive behavior, effort, and teamwork. The personal supply bins made students feel proud to have their own space, and the games and snacks were immediately put to good use and appreciated by everyone.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these resources will continue supporting a calm and organized learning environment. Your donation of iPads with protective cases, STEM building blocks, bird feeder kits, and a photo printer will transform how our students learn and create.\r\n\r\nThe iPads will give students instant access to educational apps, virtual simulations, and digital research tools. They'll document projects, capture data, and collaborate with peers—building digital literacy, creativity, and critical-thinking skills that are essential in today's world. The protective cases mean we can use these tools confidently across hands-on lessons and outdoor learning.\r\n\r\nThe STEM building blocks and bird feeder kits bring engineering and environmental science into students' hands. Through designing, constructing, testing, and iterating, learners will practice problem-solving, teamwork, and real-world application of science and math. The bird feeder projects will also deepen their connection to local ecosystems and stewardship of the environment.\r\n\r\nThe photo printer is a wonderful finishing touch. When I first showed the visors and the materials to the students, they were impressed and a little humbled that someone they didn't even know cared so much about them and their service to our school. \r\n\r\nSkin protection was always something I wanted to guarantee my service group members because it is very hot and sunny out at recess. I felt guilty for asking them to stand in the middle of the recess field without protection for their faces, so I would post them under the trees. However, staying under the trees does not give them complete access to the kids they are there to help. Now, the Mediators can go wherever they are needed!\r\n\r\nAlso, not only do the sun visors help protect the students from the sun, but they look GREAT! I feel that students actually do their job a bit better when they \"look the part\" – which they do. The colors match either our vests or our blue service group t-shirts, and I think they look smashing. The visors also help the younger kids at recess spot a Mediator that they can go to for help if they need to. I had wanted for so long to get this for my service group, and I cannot thank you enough for your generosity!\r\n\r\nI also want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the amazing organization cart and some lovely Expo pens to help with meetings and art projects. As you can see from the photos, the cart looks so great in my office and has so many drawers to organize supplies and documents. I can move it around on the wheels too. Another great feature is that the bins are completely removable, so I can take a bin of markers and another bin of paper or whatever, and easily carry these supplies into the cafeteria or wherever we do our projects. So instead of throwing all the supplies we need into a bag, carrying it into the cafeteria, and then reorganizing it all later, now everything stays neat, organized, accessible and ready for the next time we need it. The cart is such a huge time-saver, and it looks and functions great. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your warmth of heart and generosity!","fullyFundedDate":1757483771790,"projectUrl":"project/conflict-mediators-need-sun-protection-a/9657031/","projectTitle":"Conflict Mediators Need Sun Protection and Project Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Willcox","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9858493"},{"teacherId":10162203,"projectId":9770472,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the generous donation! The supplies have been incredibly helpful in the classroom. We created IEP data-tracking folders using the new binders and sheet protectors. The clipboards and post‑its have been essential during inclusion and data-collection activities. The paperclips, label maker, rubber bands, staplers, staples, sheet protectors, hole punches, and other items are used daily to organize classwork and manage data. The students are very grateful for the paper, pens, and pencils they use to write in their journals. During math activities, students use the math whiteboard materials, magnetic whiteboards, dry‑erase markers, and perfectly sized erasers to practice and model strategies (number bonds, number lines, and step‑by‑step problem solving). One memorable moment occurred when a student asked for the magnetic math materials and solved the math problem independently — the student beamed with pride.\r\n\r\nStudents were thrilled and immediately curious when they saw the supplies. They were so happy as the classroom took shape and became more organized. The class-store items (chips and gummies) caused a joyous round of excitement. The students practiced counting and saving to \"buy\" healthy treats, and you could see executive-function skills and motivation build in real time. Students were also excited about the stamp pad because they began receiving more stamps on their work and enjoyed stamping their own papers for excellent effort.\r\n\r\nWe will continue using the IEP binders for weekly progress monitoring. The supplies will continue to improve the classroom's organizational system. We will expand math whiteboard work into group word problem-solving tasks so students can teach and learn from each other. The class store will likely be used as a cross-curricular tool; we will incorporate writing prompts (journals and pens) so students can reflect on purchases and budgeting decisions.
