My kids were absolutely obsessed with the Biscoff biscuits and the Welch's fruit snacks during our breaks! I also used the Pringles and Fruit Roll-Ups as special incentives and prizes—having those \"high-value\" treats made our classroom goals feel so much more exciting, and the kids worked extra hard to earn them.\r\n\r\nBeyond the snacks, the specific materials I requested have transformed our daily routine. The mats were perfect for our community circles on the grass, giving us a comfortable space to connect. In our calm corner, the teddy bear has provided so much comfort to students needing a quiet moment to reset. When we ran our homeroom version of \"Shark Tank,\" the new Legos were essential for the kids to build their prototypes, and the jigsaw puzzles have been great for exercising their minds during centers and downtime.\r\n\r\nI specifically selected these items to ensure every need was met, from the personal hygiene products and classroom materials to the simple paper cups that helped my kids quench their thirst when they forgot their tumblers. Students loved locating places connected to our lessons and were especially excited to find places where their families have lived. This helped them make personal, real-world connections and led to rich classroom conversations.\r\n\r\nThe organizational and classroom supplies supported smoother daily routines and helped our classroom run more efficiently. These skills are practiced everyday and help us grow as community contributors.\r\n\r\nThe art supplies were truly received well with the students. My class loves to express their individuality through the fine arts. Being able to watercolor their parents' Christmas gift was truly special to them. And before that, we used the cardstock to create such vivid Fall theme art. We got so many compliments on both projects that my students are just begging for my art projects.\r\n\r\nYour donation of math manipulatives and some of the art supplies are reusable and I intend on providing my future students the same opportunities. Our class is using the new resources to actively teach and practice emotional self-regulation throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nThe weighted lap pads and plush animals have been game-changers. For instance, during our challenging math block, I noticed one student, who often gets restless, was starting to constantly get out of their seat, move around, rock in their chair, etc. Instead of prompting her, she quietly chose a weighted sloth plush and placed it on her lap. She took three deep breaths and was immediately able to settle back down and finish her work. It wasn't about punishment or a break; it was a student independently choosing a tool to manage her own energy.\r\n\r\nThe wobble stools are now integrated into our small group area, and is available for them to use for a block period or during tests. Students who need subtle movement to focus can now sway gently while actively participating in discussions, which has significantly reduced disruptive fidgeting and increased engagement. The art supplies are also key, providing a non-verbal outlet. Our students love to decompress by using the new oil pastels for quiet drawing after a heavy assessment, turning moments of anxiety into moments of creative calm.\r\n\r\nWhen the students found out about all the exciting things coming their way from our generous donors, their reaction was a wonderful mix of curiosity and immediate relief.\r\n\r\nWhen the wobble stools arrived, they were fascinated by the unique design, and their first instinct was to test them out, which we turned into a mini-lesson on active listening while seated. However, the most profound reaction came from the weighted lap pads. Several students, particularly those who struggle with high anxiety, immediately understood the purpose. They gently hugged the plush sloths and black cats and put the lap pads on, and you could just see the anxiety and pressure just release. \r\n\r\nIt was powerful to see the materials normalize the need for a break. It's no longer seen as an intervention for bad behavior, but as a suite of professional, comfortable tools designed to help them be their best selves. They see the Calm Corner now not as a timeout spot, but as their personal emotional toolkit.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to elevate the creative coping mechanism component of the Calm Corner. When needed, some of my students have engaged in \"Emotion Maps\" using the new dry-erase boards and cardstock. The students use the dry-erase markers to quickly sketch and label how different emotions (like frustration or excitement) feel in their bodies, making the abstract concept of emotion very concrete.\r\n\r\nFollowing that, students will use the new oil pastels and cardstock to create a Halloween Spooky House project. I received an idea, and during my SEL, I'd like to try \"Mood Artwork\"—abstract pieces that express their current emotional state using color and texture. We will then use the plastic folders to create personal, private portfolios for their artwork and self-regulation plans. This project will help them build an emotional library, reinforcing the understanding that art is a powerful and healthy way to process big feelings—a skill they can carry with them long after they leave our classroom.\r\n\r\nThank you for your continued support in our child's success! It means the world to us!! The difference is truly visible every day.\r\n\r\nWe are now using the resources constantly. The flexible seating options—like wobble stools and floor cushions—have been transformative. Students who previously struggled with long periods of sitting now have the freedom to choose a learning space that helps them focus. Just last week, during a challenging writing assignment, I watched a student who usually taps his pencil constantly opt for a wiggle seat. He stayed focused and completed the assignment with an attention level I hadn't seen before. The sight word games have turned drilling into joyful competition. We now start our resource period with a quick game, and the students cheer when they get a word right. Their reaction when they first saw the big box of new materials was one of pure, unadulterated excitement—a collective gasp followed by kids practically bouncing in their chairs, asking, \"Can we use that now?\" It instantly signaled to them that learning was about to get fun and engaging.\r\n\r\nThe new stamps have revolutionized my ability to collect real-time data while remaining present with my students. Instead of pausing instruction to make notes, a quick stamp during a sight word activity or a math problem lets me instantly record mastery or areas of need. This efficiency means more dedicated time for one-on-one instruction and small group support. Our current classroom focus is diving into fractions and main idea in reading. The next step will be integrating the flexible seating into our new fraction stations, where students will be using hands-on manipulatives in their preferred learning space. Similarly, we'll use our sight word games to build fluency before tackling multi-paragraph texts to identify the main idea. Your support is directly helping us make these complex concepts accessible and exciting.\r\n\r\nThank you again for giving my students the tools they need to be successful and for helping them truly love learning!","fullyFundedDate":1742166975020,"projectUrl":"project/3-ss-seats-sight-words-and-stamps/9171099/","projectTitle":"3 S's: Seats, Sight Words, and Stamps","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Inouye","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9145734"},{"teacherId":9917967,"projectId":9480624,"letterContent":"This project has already made a meaningful difference for my students.
