They got to choose their game and all of them showed perseverance, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. When the materials first arrived, students were incredibly excited—many recognized the games and eagerly shared their own experiences playing them. \r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using these resources to deepen their learning through more structured projects and reflection. We are grateful for people like you who value the students and teachers, and who offer to help make our learning environments more friendly. The impact of your donations to my classroom were immediate and positive. I received a nice sized rug, and some alternative seating cushions that give the students comfort and choice in where they do work.\r\n\r\nEach period of new students that walked into the classroom cheered and immediately ran over to sit on the carpet and try out the cushions! The next question asked was, \"Can we read today?\" I rarely heard them ask for permission to read and I saw them focus on the work they needed to complete in order to get to read. They are engaged, focused and excited when they have a choice in where they sit. I notice they are so much more eager to read when they can actually relax and be comfortable!\r\n\r\nWe had a long conversation about where the seating and carpet came from and how others we will never know, value them and their learning. They had questions about why strangers would do that for them, and we had a very positive dialogue about it. They realize now how giving back to the community can impact others in a positive way. Students eagerly use them during group activities and independent work, and they've helped make learning more comfortable, engaging, and active. Students placed the spoons into a cup of warm water and, using their new stopwatches, timed how quickly the heat traveled up the handle. They recorded the temperature change (or simply the perceived warmth change) at a fixed point on each spoon's handle over set time intervals.\r\n\r\nThis experiment wasn't possible before because we lacked enough reliable timing devices and standardized materials. The stopwatches allowed for precise, quantitative data collection, turning a simple observation into a rigorous scientific investigation. The key impact on thermal energy heat concepts was solidifying the understanding of thermal conductivity:\r\n\r\nThe metal spoon quickly warmed up, demonstrating it's a good conductor of heat.\r\n\r\nThe wooden spoon warmed up very slowly, if at all, showing it's a poor conductor (or a good insulator).","fullyFundedDate":1757699443233,"projectUrl":"project/measuring-motion-heat-tools-to-bring/9701182/","projectTitle":"Measuring Motion & Heat: Tools to Bring Energy to Life!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tanaka","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9699332_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724354440623","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9699332"},{"teacherId":8894909,"projectId":9162920,"letterContent":"Your incredible generosity has transformed both our classroom environment and our students' daily learning experiences! When we unveiled the new equipment, the reactions were absolutely priceless - students gasped with excitement when they saw the karaoke machine and immediately started planning performances, while others were drawn to the colorful fidget tubes and transformable spinners that have become essential tools for our students who need sensory support. The balance beams have created an entirely new dimension to our indoor physical activity time, with students eagerly taking turns walking across them while practicing spelling words or math facts. Our Ninja Foodi has revolutionized our life skills lessons, allowing students to participate in real cooking experiences where they've learned measurement, following directions, and kitchen safety while preparing healthy snacks for the class.\r\n\r\nThe fidget toys and sensory materials have been game-changers for our students with autism and ADHD, providing them with the regulation tools they need to focus during lessons. I've watched students who previously struggled to sit still during instruction now actively participate in discussions while quietly manipulating their pop tubes or fidget spinners. Even practical items like the electric pencil sharpener and colorful clipboards have made daily tasks more engaging and efficient. The jump ropes have sparked friendly competitions during recess, encouraging students to set personal goals and celebrate each other's achievements.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we're expanding our hands-on learning approach across all subjects using these wonderful resources. Next month, we'll begin a \"Cooking with Math\" unit where students will use the Ninja Foodi to explore fractions, measurements, and time concepts while preparing recipes from different cultures. We're also planning a talent show featuring our karaoke machine, where students will build confidence in public speaking and performance. The sensory tools will continue to support our calm-down corner and help us create an inclusive environment where every student can succeed. Your investment has given us the tools to meet each child where they are and help them grow in ways that extend far beyond traditional academics.","fullyFundedDate":1742049034722,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-games-activities-and-culinary/9162920/","projectTitle":"Sensory Games, Activities, and Culinary Items for FSC Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Chris","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8894909_orig.jpg?crop=1440,1440,x0,y43&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725676595368","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8894909"},{"teacherId":8894909,"projectId":9175588,"letterContent":"Your generous contributions have transformed our outdoor learning environment and brought so much joy to our students! Can we try it?\" The swing has become a favorite gathering spot where students take turns, cheer each other on, and practice patience and sharing. Our Razor scooters have given students with different mobility needs new ways to participate in active play, while the LED-light Hurtle scooters have made it more engaging as the lights create a magical atmosphere during PE activities.\r\n\r\nWe've integrated many of these resources into our physical education curriculum and structured recess time. The agility hurdles and soccer cones are being used for fitness circuits that help students develop coordination and teamwork skills. The dodgeball set and catch games like the Foxtail Sport have revitalized our field day preparations, giving students opportunities to practice hand-eye coordination while having fun with their peers. The crawl tunnel has been particularly beneficial for our sensory-seeking students, providing a safe space for movement breaks throughout the day.
