And thank you I find people with good hearts, who are willing to selflessly share whatever they have just to help realize the goal towards quality education. Because of your kindness, that hope is now a reality.\r\nThe resources you have provided, especially the colored printer are going to completely transform our daily math block. Instead of just looking at black and white worksheets, my students will now have more interactive and engaging materials they need to truly interact with the concepts. Your support allows us to turn abstract math lessons into tangible, exciting challenges where every student can feel like a superstar.\r\nI am incredibly thankful, and moved to know that there is a community of people who, like me, believe that every student has its own potential, we only need to dig it up and help them unleash it. Thank you so much for investing in their education. Historically, 12th graders are given some liberty to say goodbye to teachers, which can make for a sentimentally rewarding but somewhat disjointed day. Last Friday was also a \"C Schedule\" day, which means classes are only 35 minutes. \r\n\r\nI had resigned myself to declaring each period a \"Make Up Day.\" However, the first couple of students to enter my classroom in Period 1 went directly to the bookshelves to retrieve their Independent Reading novels. \r\n\r\nI took that as a sign from the universe: we would read on this Friday, no matter what. \r\n\r\nAn Overview of the Program . . .\r\n\r\nDuring a typical school day, we do small group work around a non-fiction text during the first part (45 minutes) of class. Usually the text is a news article concerning a current event or a human interest story. \r\n\r\nThe last part (15 minutes) of the class is dedicated to independent reading. There is always a prompt the students must answer, and that prompt requires them to use a new word or concept from the non-fiction text to process their novels. I think there is great literacy leverage when students must find a way to make the two texts to \"converse.\"\r\n\r\nEarly in the school year, I had to do a lot of monitoring during Independent Reading. I do minimal monitoring now. It took some time for students to find books that truly interested them, and for them to build their reading stamina.\r\n\r\nMany students have finished at least one book on their own this year, and many of them derive a sense of accomplishment from it. \r\n\r\nYour support has helped many of my students see themselves as readers.","fullyFundedDate":1764704881209,"projectUrl":"project/turning-reluctant-readers-into-passiona/9601708/","projectTitle":"Turning Reluctant Readers into Passionate Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Kennedy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9469070"},{"teacherId":9690628,"projectId":10111605,"letterContent":"Students at Aiea High School face academic and social pressure with limited opportunities to decompress during the school day. \r\n\r\nThe donation that include food, beanbag chairs, furniture, and SEL games have made the school's counseling room a functional refuge during recess. \r\n\r\nIn their fifteen to thirty minute break, students use the beanbag chairs and weighted stuffed animals to relax, reset, and step away from the stress of their studies.\r\n\r\nThese donated items also directly support the counseling experience. We are currently using the small dry-erase boards and Expo pens daily for our \"Objection! Game.\" In this activity, students act as legal \"referees\" while we study historical civil rights violations, such as the Espionage Acts of WWI or the Mexican Repatriation of the 1930s.\r\n\r\nA specific moment that stood out was when a normally quiet student stood up, held up her board with \"VIOLATION OF DUE PROCESS\" written in bold green marker, and explained exactly why a historical deportation was unconstitutional. Having these tactile tools allows my students to participate in \"real-time\" history, making the lessons far more interactive than a standard lecture.\r\n\r\nStudent Reactions\r\nWhen the boxes of supplies first arrived, my students were genuinely touched. One student remarked, \"Wait, these are for us? People we don't even know bought these?\" There was a visible sense of pride as they unboxed the high-quality Sharpies and poster boards. It sent a powerful message to them that their education is valued by the community. They treated the materials with immediate respect, eager to start using \"professional\" tools for their upcoming projects.\r\n\r\nNext Steps for Our Students\r\nWe are now moving into the final phase of our unit: The Living Gallery. Using the poster boards, markers, and colored paper you provided, students are currently designing visual \"Blueprints for Change.\" Each student has chosen a moment in U.S. History where bystanders stayed silent. Their task is to use the art supplies to create a visual \"Rebuttal\"—showing exactly how an \"Upstander\" could have intervened.\r\n\r\nThis project allows them to combine their artistic skills with the CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) method we've practiced all semester. To truly excel, our student-athletes needed to understand that mental resilience and physical performance are inextricably linked to proper nutrition. Your generosity provided the snacks, Gatorade, and fuel necessary to turn this vision into a reality.\r\n\r\nThe Impact of the Resources\r\nWe are currently using these resources as a foundational element of our daily \"Refuel and Refocus\" sessions. These aren't just snack breaks; they are intentional periods of recovery where we discuss how the body uses electrolytes and complex carbohydrates to sustain focus during high-pressure moments.\r\n\r\nBy having these materials readily available, we have eliminated a significant barrier for many of our students who come to practice straight from a long school day without having had a nutritious meal. We are seeing fewer instances of \"brain fog\" and physical fatigue during the final hour of our sessions, which is precisely when mental strength is tested the most.\r\n\r\nA Moment of Realization\r\nA specific moment that stands out occurred last Tuesday during a particularly grueling endurance circuit. Usually, by the halfway mark, the atmosphere becomes heavy with frustration. However, we stopped for a quick hydration and fuel break using the Gatorade and energy-dense snacks you provided.\r\n\r\nI overheard one of our captains telling a younger teammate, \"It's not that you aren't strong enough; your brain just ran out of gas. Drink this and give it five minutes.\" Seeing a student-athlete connect the dots between biochemistry and perseverance was a breakthrough. It shifted the narrative from \"I can't do this\" to \"I need to fuel up to do this.\" That shift in mindset is the \"mental strength\" this project aimed to cultivate.\r\n\r\nThe Initial Reaction\r\nThe day the boxes arrived was one of the highlights of our season. When the students first saw the stacks of materials, there was a genuine sense of awe. One student asked, \"This is all for us?\"\r\n\r\nThere is a powerful psychological boost that comes from knowing that people—many of whom they have never met—believe in their potential enough to invest in their health. They didn't just see snacks and drinks; they saw a vote of confidence in their hard work. The energy in the room was electric, and it immediately translated into one of our most productive practices of the year.\r\n\r\nNext Steps: The \"Nourished Leader\" Project\r\nLooking ahead, our next step is to transition from provided fuel to student-led nutritional planning. Using the momentum from your donation, our students are beginning a project called \"The Nourished Leader.\" In this lesson, athletes are working in small groups to design their own \"ideal performance menus\" based on the nutritional profiles of the items you funded. They are researching how different nutrients affect their mood, reaction time, and recovery. This project will culminate in a presentation where they teach their peers about the science of the \"whole athlete,\" ensuring that the lessons learned from your donation stick with them long after the supplies are gone.\r\n\r\nThank you for being the fuel behind our progress. You haven't just provided snacks; you've provided the opportunity for these young people to see what they are truly capable of when their bodies and minds are fully supported.\r\n\r\nWith deep appreciation,","fullyFundedDate":1763498238936,"projectUrl":"project/beyond-the-scoreboard-nourishing-the-wh/9795638/","projectTitle":"Beyond the Scoreboard: Nourishing the Whole Athlete for Mental Strength","teacherDisplayName":"Coach Chad T.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10302957"},{"teacherId":9341348,"projectId":9773455,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the generous donation!
