My students were absolutely thrilled to dive into these high-interest, fact-packed titles. Beyond being a huge hit during reading time, these books have been fantastic tools for expanding our vocabulary, boosting reading comprehension, and sparking curiosity about the world around us. After reading, students put their learning to the test by taking Accelerated Reader quizzes, earning points toward our library reading rewards!\r\n\r\nTo make the stories come alive, the students created incredible shoebox dioramas based on their chosen titles. They are eagerly preparing short book talks to present their projects to classmates at the end of the month, after which they will swap books to keep the reading adventure going. Students are using them during carpet time, literacy centers, and independent writing to create a stable workspace wherever they choose to learn. One special moment that stood out was during our writing block—students spread out across the room with their lap desks and worked on drawing and labeling their stories. I noticed increased focus, longer writing stamina, and so much pride in their work. The lap desks have truly helped transform flexible seating into purposeful learning time.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the lap desks, their excitement was immediate—they couldn't wait to use them! There were lots of smiles, and several students said it made them feel like \"big kids\" with their own workspace. Since then, they've taken great ownership of using and caring for them. As we move forward, we plan to continue using the lap desks to support small group instruction and writing projects, especially as we begin more detailed storytelling and early research activities.
