Our students are encouraged to read and become engaged readers. Many of our students come from homes where their parents did not complete their education and do not place importance on reading. Our school encourages academics and reading to accomplish goals outside of school and at home. \r\nStudents compete in a reading bowl filled with trivia on 10 chapter books. Each book is chosen for the type of format and interest level of the fourth and fifth-grade students in Georgia. Books are read, and reading coaches encourage students to read and comprehend the books. Last year, our school placed in the district level and the regional level. This was the first time in our school history to accomplish this feat. \r\nIt was only due to generous donations from Donors Choose that allowed us to compete in this activity and to succeed as a school. The kids had a blast working in groups to put the floor puzzles together. The groups even made a competition of it and timed themselves to see which group could put their puzzle together the fastest. These were really great for the students.
