The iPad has become an essential communication tool for our students, especially those with autism who benefit from visual and assistive technology. It allows students to express their needs, make choices, and participate more confidently in classroom activities, which has significantly increased their independence and engagement.\r\n\r\nThe beanbag chair has also been incredibly beneficial. It provides a comfortable, calming space where students can self-regulate, reduce anxiety, and refocus when they feel overwhelmed. Having a designated sensory-friendly seating option has helped improve attention, emotional regulation, and overall classroom behavior.\r\n\r\nTogether, these resources have created a more inclusive and supportive learning environment. Our students feel safer, more understood, and better able to communicate and learn. The donated cots provided a peaceful, dedicated space for children to take restorative naps, which helped reduce sensory overload and improved their ability to focus and engage throughout the day. Thanks to these cots, our children are able to fully recharge, better equipping them to manage sensory challenges.\r\n\r\nThe sensory tiles also offered a safe, structured way for children to explore their surroundings and discover their sensory preferences. By engaging multiple senses (touch, sight), the tiles helped children with autism develop their sensory processing skills. These tiles also supported emotional regulation, reduced anxiety, and encouraged positive sensory exploration. Together, the cots and sensory tiles created an environment that nurtured learning, play, and self-expression, empowering our children to feel more in control of their sensory experiences.\r\n\r\nWe are deeply grateful for your generosity—it has made a huge impact in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1733278320450,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-safe-and-comfortable-space-fo/8780558/","projectTitle":"Creating a Safe and Comfortable Space for Children With Autism","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Abayabay","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1214736_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726322572303","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1214736"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_47977","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":451,"numTeachers":47,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":53,"percentWhite":17,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":53.0,"schoolId":47977,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Windsor Forest Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Windsor Forest Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/savannah-chatham-county-school-district/windsor-forest-elementary-school/47977"}
