A specific highlight was last Tuesday: one of my most reluctant readers used the new tactile letter beads to build the word \"through.\" When he realized he could recognize it instantly in his favorite picture book later that afternoon, his face lit up with pure pride. He shouted, \"I have the superpower now!\" to the whole room. \r\n\r\nA Magical First Impression\r\nWhen the boxes first arrived, the excitement was palpable. The students gathered around as if it were a holiday morning. As I pulled out the colorful word-building kits and vibrant flashcards, there were audible gasps and cheers. They were especially thrilled with the \"Super Power\" theme—having physical tools that make learning feel like a mission has completely shifted the energy in our reading nook. \r\n\r\nWhat's Next? \r\nNow that we've built a strong foundation, our next step is a \"Super Reader Author Circle.\" Students are beginning to write their own mini-books using the sight words they've mastered. We are moving from recognition to application, and soon, they will be \"flying\" through full sentences and short stories of their own creation. One of my favorite moments was watching a small group of students choose to sit on wobble seats while working together to build words—they were engaged, focused, and excited to share their thinking with each other.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, their faces lit up with excitement! They couldn't wait to try each seating option, and it instantly made our classroom feel more inviting and special. Many of my students who typically struggle to sit still were able to stay engaged longer, simply because they had the freedom to move in a way that worked for their bodies.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, our classroom has become a place where students feel comfortable, confident, and ready to learn. As we move forward, we will continue using these resources during small group instruction, STEM activities, and partner work to encourage collaboration and meaningful conversations. As students cared for living plants and fish, they began to understand responsibility, empathy, and patience in a very real and meaningful way. Each day, students eagerly checked on the plants, gently handled seedlings, and reminded one another to \"be careful\" and \"be kind\" so the plants could grow strong.\r\nStudents quickly learned that the garden depended on teamwork. They took turns planting seeds, labeling pods, adding water, and observing growth. When someone forgot a step or made a mistake, classmates offered help and encouragement rather than frustration. Caring for something living helped students practice empathy—recognizing that plants, like people, need time, attention, and care to thrive.\r\nThe aquaponic system became a special classroom responsibility. Students spoke softly around the fish tank and reminded each other to keep the environment clean and calm. This shared responsibility fostered compassion and respect, as students understood their actions directly affected another living thing. Some students even made connections between caring for plants and caring for friends, explaining that \"everyone needs help sometimes.\"\r\nGrowing strawberries and lettuce also opened conversations about generosity and gratitude. Students expressed excitement about sharing what we grew and talked about how food helps people stay healthy. Watching something grow from a tiny seed helped students appreciate patience and celebrate small successes, reinforcing positive emotions and kindness toward others.\r\nOverall, this project nurtured a classroom culture of care, cooperation, and compassion. Through hands‑on gardening, my students didn't just learn about plants—they learned how to be gentle helpers, thoughtful teammates, and kind caretakers. These lessons in empathy and responsibility will continue to grow with them long after the plants are harvested.","fullyFundedDate":1720570917730,"projectUrl":"project/discovering-compassion-through-hydroponi/8474519/","projectTitle":"Discovering Compassion Through Hydroponics!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Nardi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7398687_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1780436160246","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7398687"},{"teacherId":7398687,"projectId":8610667,"letterContent":"These STEM materials have transformed learning in my kindergarten classroom by making curiosity, problem‑solving, and collaboration part of our everyday routine. Students are actively engaged during STEM centers as they build, test, redesign, and explore new ideas through hands‑on play. Whether constructing roller coasters with K'NEX, designing structures with magnetic blocks, or solving logic puzzles, students are learning that mistakes are part of the learning process and that persistence leads to success.\r\nWhen students were first introduced to these materials, their excitement was immediate. They couldn't wait to touch, build, and experiment. Many students who are typically hesitant during academic tasks quickly became confident leaders during STEM activities. The PlayShifu Plugo kits sparked enthusiasm for math and literacy by turning counting and word building into interactive games. Students cheered each other on as they solved problems and celebrated correct answers, strengthening both academic skills and teamwork.\r\nThe impact extended beyond academics. Materials like Play‑Doh, Wikki Stix, and pattern blocks supported fine motor development while allowing students to express creativity. Sensory and fidget tools helped students regulate emotions and stay focused, making learning more accessible for all learners. Coding and logic challenges, such as pixel art and marble maze activities, strengthened critical thinking and encouraged students to explain their reasoning using academic language.\r\nAs a result of this project, students are now more confident problem‑solvers who approach challenges with enthusiasm instead of fear. They ask thoughtful questions, collaborate with peers, and proudly share their creations. These materials have laid a strong foundation for STEM learning while fostering a classroom culture built on curiosity, creativity, and joy.\r\nBecause of this project, my kindergarten students see themselves as builders, thinkers, and innovators—setting the stage for lifelong learning.","fullyFundedDate":1726791820435,"projectUrl":"project/for-the-love-of-stem/8610667/","projectTitle":"For the Love of STEM","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Nardi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7398687_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1780436160246","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7398687"},{"teacherId":7398687,"projectId":8455999,"letterContent":"Thanks to these new materials, my kindergarten students are learning, creating, and growing with confidence every single day. We are using the handwriting paper, beginner writing paper, and magnetic handwriting boards during our daily literacy block to practice letter formation, spacing, and drawing to tell stories. One of our favorite moments has been during writing centers, when students proudly use the magnetic boards to practice their letters before transferring their best work onto paper for their writing journals.\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their faces lit up with excitement. They were especially thrilled with the colorful stamps and ink pads—earning a stamp for effort or progress instantly became a powerful motivator. Students proudly show their stamped work to classmates and take it home to share with their families. The name tags and lanyards also helped them feel \"official\" and responsible, especially during school events and classroom activities.\r\nThe binders are now being used to create individual writing portfolios so students can see how much they've grown throughout the year. Silent timers have helped students stay focused during centers and transitions, reducing anxiety and keeping the classroom calm and organized. The magnetic hooks allow me to display student work, anchor charts, and visuals at eye level, making learning more accessible and engaging.\r\nNext, students will continue building their writing stamina by creating class books using the handwriting paper—drawing pictures and writing sentences to match. As we move into guided writing and sentence formation, these materials will help students apply their skills independently and with pride. Because of our donors, my students now have the tools they need to feel successful, confident, and excited about learning.","fullyFundedDate":1719512244839,"projectUrl":"project/please-help-me-enhance-my-students-learn/8455999/","projectTitle":"Please Help Me Enhance My Students Learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Nardi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7398687_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1780436160246","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7398687"},{"teacherId":10003472,"projectId":9279370,"letterContent":"A heartfelt thanks to all of you who helped to create an incredible learning experience for my students.
