Students can crawl through the tunnel, navigate stepping stones and riverstones, use the peanut ball for movement, explore sensory materials, or choose from a variety of fidgets. For students who need a quieter experience, the fiber optic lights, star projector, weighted animals, breathing balls, and other calming materials provide a place to slow down, regulate, and reset.\r\n\r\nOne of the things I love most about this project is that there isn't just one \"right\" way for students to use the room. Some students need movement. Some need something to keep their hands busy. Others need reduced stimulation, calming lights, or deep pressure. Having a variety of resources allows us to better meet students where they are and give them choices in learning what helps their own bodies regulate.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project took an idea for a school-wide sensory room and made it a reality. The room is now a dedicated space where students from across our school can move, explore, regulate, and take the break they need before returning to their classroom and continuing their day.\r\n\r\nWe are incredibly thankful to everyone who helped make this space possible. From pencils and notebooks to folders and basic supplies, these materials are used daily across all subjects. Instead of worrying about whether they have what they need, students are able to stay focused, organized, and fully engaged in their learning. During a recent writing lesson, every student was able to participate without interruption—no one had to sit out or wait to borrow supplies. That simple moment made a big difference in maintaining momentum and confidence.\r\n\r\nWhen the supplies first arrived, the impact was immediate. Having shared, community materials readily available has created a smoother, more efficient classroom environment where students can quickly access what they need and transition between activities without delays. It has also helped foster a sense of shared responsibility and respect for our classroom resources.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these resources will continue to support our daily lessons and upcoming projects, especially as we prepare for important end-of-year assessments. Students will be able to focus on strengthening their skills, practicing strategies, and showing what they know without barriers.
