One of my favorite moments was when the students eagerly planted their seeds. They were so excited to get their hands in the soil and take ownership of something they will nurture over time. It was a great opportunity to talk about responsibility, patience, and the food cycle in a meaningful, hands-on way.\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students were curious and engaged, asking questions and ready to begin. Many of them were especially motivated by the idea that their work would connect to a real-world outcome of growing food that will eventually be part of our classroom \"restaurant.\"\r\nRight now, we've started seeds that we plan to harvest in August when we return to school. While we wait for them to grow, our students are continuing the project in other meaningful ways. They are working on creating monthly menus, designing decorations, and practicing job skills that will be used during our faculty lunch days. This includes roles like setting up, serving, and organizing that helping build independence and real-life vocational skills.\r\nThis project has given our students a true sense of purpose, and we are so grateful for the support that made it possible!","fullyFundedDate":1777565952806,"projectUrl":"project/seeds-of-success-a-steam-life-skills-ga/10225265/","projectTitle":"Seeds of Success: A STEAM Life Skills Garden","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Garrett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8468482"},{"teacherId":8468482,"projectId":10265608,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our classroom! The new resources have already made a positive impact on student learning and engagement. Students were especially excited to use the dry erase pouches and erasers during our daily lessons. The reusable pouches allow students to practice math problems, review unit vocabulary, and write personal information skills in a way that encourages risk-taking and learning from mistakes. Students can easily erase and try again, which helps build confidence and increases participation. The dice have also become a favorite classroom tool as students use them to practice multiplication, division, and probability skills through hands-on games and activities.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, students were thrilled to see the new supplies. The storage boxes have helped us organize task cards and learning materials, making it easier for students to access independent and small-group activities. Students enjoy selecting task cards from the organized bins and practicing skills at their own pace. The magnets have also transformed the way we use our whiteboard and bulletin boards. We can now display maps, vocabulary words, variables, and other instructional materials during lessons. These visual supports help students make connections and stay actively engaged in learning. The grow light has generated a lot of curiosity as students observe our classroom plants and discuss how light affects plant growth.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue using these materials in a variety of projects and lessons. The dice will support our upcoming probability investigations and math fact fluency activities. The dry erase pouches will be used to reinforce math concepts, practice unit vocabulary, and build life skills such as writing personal information. The storage boxes will keep our growing collection of task cards organized for independent practice and intervention groups. The magnets will allow us to create interactive displays for geography units using maps, math lessons involving variables and equations, and career-readiness activities focused on job skills. Our classroom plants will be part of an ongoing environmental science unit where students collect observations, record data, and learn about the needs of living things. Your generosity has provided meaningful learning opportunities that will benefit students throughout the year. Thank you for helping make our classroom a place where curiosity, exploration, and learning can thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1778107974491,"projectUrl":"project/essential-materials-for-our-special-educ/10265608/","projectTitle":"Essential Materials for Our Special Education Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Garrett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8468482"},{"teacherId":8468482,"projectId":10185537,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, my students are enthusiastically using the new materials during our chicken and chick life cycle project. Students built nesting boxes, explored how different parts of the brooder boxes work, and learned how each component helps keep chicks safe and healthy. They examined eggs closely, comparing shape, size, and color, and used those observations to ask thoughtful scientific questions. These hands-on experiences allowed my MI/MO students to actively engage with science concepts that are often difficult to access in traditional ways.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement was contagious. They were eager to handle the eggs, make predictions, and share their ideas. Using skills from our previous scientific inquiry unit, students hypothesized how many eggs would hatch and what colors the chicks might be. One of the most memorable moments was practicing candling. My students carefully looked inside the eggs to determine if they were viable and searched for signs of veins or developing embryos. This process helped make learning concrete, meaningful, and memorable.\r\n\r\nBy contributing to our project, you were able to step into our classroom and support an inclusive, real‑world learning experience. Our next steps include tracking chick development, revisiting hypotheses, and connecting life cycles to basic DNA concepts. These activities build confidence, strengthen critical thinking, and allow every student to fully participate in science. Thank you for helping create an engaging environment where curiosity thrives and students feel empowered to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1776086887839,"projectUrl":"project/hatch-the-wonder-life-cycles-in-action/10185537/","projectTitle":"Hatch the Wonder: Life Cycles in Action","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Garrett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8468482"},{"teacherId":8468482,"projectId":9892404,"letterContent":"We've been using the new resources in exciting and meaningful ways! The DNA kit paired perfectly with our classroom garden project, allowing students to grow different types of tomatoes and then compare their DNA. This tied directly into our \"What Makes You, You\" unit focused on DNA, cells, and genes. The butterfly kit connected beautifully with our geography and history lessons as we explored trade, the Columbian Exchange, and world regions. The fraction kit helped us practice daily living skills while reinforcing math concepts, and the solar system kit was a fun way to review our space unit.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were thrilled! Their faces lit up with curiosity and excitement they couldn't wait to dive in and start exploring.\r\n\r\nNext steps include continuing our DNA comparisons and creating a visual chart of the different tomato varieties. We'll also be observing butterfly life cycles and connecting them to global trade routes, while using the fraction kit for real-world math activities.
