When my students first saw the snack pantry, their reactions were priceless—smiles, excitement, and even a few relieved sighs. For many of them, knowing that food is available at school has created a sense of comfort and security that carries throughout the day.\r\n\r\nWe use the snack pantry regularly, especially during the morning and afternoon when students start to lose energy. One moment that stood out was a student who was struggling to focus and feeling frustrated during a lesson. After having a quick snack, they were able to rejoin the group, participate, and complete their work with confidence. It was a simple but powerful reminder of how basic needs directly impact learning.\r\n\r\nBecause of this project, my students are more focused, engaged, and ready to learn. I've been able to spend more time teaching and supporting their academic growth instead of worrying about hunger or lack of energy. The classroom environment has become more positive, calm, and supportive for everyone.","fullyFundedDate":1767207571233,"projectUrl":"project/no-hungry-learners-building-our-classro/9928776/","projectTitle":"No Hungry Learners: Building Our Classroom Snack Pantry","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Day","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9892592_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1745700484535","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9892592"},{"teacherId":9892592,"projectId":9471827,"letterContent":"From the very first day of school, these resources made an immediate impact on my students. When they walked in and saw fresh supplies, organized materials, and a classroom ready for them, their faces lit up with excitement and relief. For many of my students, having their own materials to use and take care of gave them a sense of pride and belonging right away.\r\n\r\nWe use these supplies every single day—whether it's writing, organizing our work, or participating in small group activities. One moment that stood out was during the first week of school when students were working on a writing activity. Because everyone had the materials they needed, there were no delays or frustrations—just focused, confident learners ready to share their ideas. It may seem simple, but having those basic tools removed barriers and allowed my students to fully engage in learning from day one.\r\n\r\nThese resources have also helped us build routines and responsibility. Students are learning how to care for their materials, stay organized, and take ownership of their learning environment, which has created a smoother and more productive classroom.\r\n\r\nNext, we are continuing to build on these foundational skills by focusing on writing and small group instruction. Students will be using their materials to draft, revise, and share their work, while also participating in collaborative activities that strengthen both academic and social skills. They couldn't wait to dive in, and that excitement has carried over into their engagement every time we use them.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the STEM bins during indoor recess and small group time, and it has completely changed the way my students collaborate and problem-solve. One of my favorite moments was watching a group of students work together to build the tallest structure they could using the stacking blocks. At first, it kept falling over, and instead of giving up, they started talking through what went wrong, adjusting their design, and trying again. When they finally got it to stand, they celebrated as if they had just won a competition—it was such a powerful moment of perseverance and teamwork.\r\n\r\nThese bins have also helped my students develop important skills like communication, critical thinking, and creativity. I've seen students who usually struggle during academic tasks shine when given the chance to build, create, and lead their peers in problem-solving.\r\n\r\nNext, we are starting a simple STEM challenge where students will design and build structures that can hold weight or solve a specific problem. They'll plan, test, and improve their designs, connecting what they're doing during play to real-world problem-solving. These materials have truly opened the door for hands-on learning experiences that my students will carry with them far beyond the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1767207571249,"projectUrl":"project/building-thinkers-building-writers-ste/9879646/","projectTitle":"Building Thinkers, Building Writers: STEM Bins for Stronger ELA Skills!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Day","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9892592_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1745700484535","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9892592"},{"teacherId":10224538,"projectId":9917776,"letterContent":"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generosity in donating so that my students could engage with color decodable texts to reinforce their learning. This is a rule that struggling readers often have a hard time with, and we have used these books to help reinforce our learning. When the materials arrived, the students were immediately excited, especially when they realized the blocks were theirs to explore and create with. Seeing their faces light up as they opened the boxes was a wonderful moment, and it truly made them feel valued and supported.\r\n\r\nWe are using the building blocks during both structured lessons and free-choice time to strengthen problem-solving, collaboration, and creativity. Students are working together to design towers, bridges, and imaginative structures, practicing communication and perseverance along the way. The relaxation cushion has also become an important part of our classroom, giving students a calm, safe space to reset when they need a break. Many students have shared how much they enjoy having a cozy spot to relax and refocus before returning to learning.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include incorporating the building blocks into math and STEM lessons, where students will measure, plan, and reflect on their designs. We will also continue teaching self-regulation skills using the relaxation area so students learn how to recognize their emotions and manage them in positive ways.
