My students were incredibly excited to unpack our materials- especially the microphone. They noted that it looked professional. They helped set up the microphone and learned how to record audio on their computer. This helped them take on a professional aura as they interviewed one another for a podcast about locations in Georgia that had visited as part of our unit on Georgia geography. This project allowed students to connect classroom content to their real world, lived experiences in a fun way. \r\n\r\nAnother student wrote and recorded a rap describing the geography and economic contributions of the 5 regions of Georgia. Together with a friend, they produced a catchy song which the entire class enjoyed! When students can integrate their passions and work creatively, their learning and the learning of other students is multiplied. Your support has helped this occur in our classroom.\r\n\r\nMy students enjoyed the creative and technological components of working with a microphone in class. The new experience helped engagement and deeper understanding of the content.","fullyFundedDate":1748639087181,"projectUrl":"project/choice-board-resources/9331765/","projectTitle":"Choice Board Resources","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Blankenship","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9538870"},{"teacherId":9591589,"projectId":8495400,"letterContent":"A HUGE thank you for your classroom donation of the aquaponics. It has made an educational impact on my science students. They have received a hands on STEM experience. Growing cilantro gives students practical experience with planting, nurturing, and harvesting crops, making abstract concepts tangible. They understand the environmental impact such as sustainability concepts, such as resource efficiency, water conservation, and eco-friendly agriculture. \r\n\r\nThe aquaponics increased my student engagement within the classroom. The students often would stop by in the morning on their way to their homeroom class to see the cilantro growth or if the cilantro needed more water. Some students who never spoke in my classroom began to enter the classroom asking me how the cilantro was doing. Growing a tangible product, like cilantro, offers a sense of accomplishment and a connection to the results of their work. One student who consistently helped with the growing process took some cilantro home to eat. Thus fostering better eating habits. \r\n\r\nThe aquaponics helped the students embrace responsibility and ownership. Caring for plants and fish fosters a sense of accountability and responsibility in students. The students also developed problem solving skills. Managing a live ecosystem requires troubleshooting issues like pH imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, or pest control, enhancing critical thinking. Determining why some seeds were sprouting and others weren't. They also had to determine when it was time to help the cilantro grow using a support and when to adjust the height of the light. Thank you again for making this school year one to remember.","fullyFundedDate":1723664460848,"projectUrl":"project/aqua-sprouts/8495400/","projectTitle":"Aqua Sprouts","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Goedtel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9591589"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_75112","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1039,"numTeachers":75,"percentFrplEligible":92,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":73,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.0,"schoolId":75112,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Berkmar Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Berkmar Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/gwinnett-county-public-schools/berkmar-middle-school/75112"}
