The books that I have chosen will be used in the classroom for students to borrow during independent reading. Students are required to read for 10 minutes a day as their warm up and they truly cherish this time. I've seen students go from reluctantly picking up a book, to racing into the classroom and starting their novel with joy. I have chosen each and every novel with my student's interests in mind. I know that once students start reading these books, they won't be able to stop. My classroom is filled with readers on levels ranging from 3rd-8th grade. During independent reading, students are able to choose a book of their interest and read at their own pace. Independent reading is their safe space and time to succeed, feel accomplished, and ready to begin our class.
