Because of you, our classroom now has access to a printer, laminator, writing utensils, and non-tear books that are making a meaningful difference every single day.\r\n\r\nMany of our donors may use technology at home, but in the classroom these tools allow me to create purposeful, individualized learning materials for my students. With the printer and laminator, I design visual schedules, communication boards, literacy activities, and task cards that support students with speech delays, autism, and other learning needs. Laminating these durable and reusable, which is especially important for students who are still developing fine motor skills and sensory awareness. This technology helps students learn more independently and with greater confidence.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most is how interactive and personal these materials are. They love being able to touch, point, write, and erase without fear of damaging anything. The non-tear books are especially exciting because students can explore books on their own- turning pages, revisiting favorite stories, and engaging with images- without the frustration of torn pages. This has made reading feel safe, fun, and accessible for all learners. \r\n\r\nSeveral students have warmed to this new technology, particularly my nonverbal students. Laminated communication boards have given them new ways to express their needs and choices, which has been incredibly empowering. Other students who struggle with attention, regulation, or fine motor skills are staying engaged longer and participating more willingly because the materials are sturdy, familiar, and supportive of their learning style. \r\n\r\nYour support had truly expanded what is possible in our classroom. Because of you, my students feel more confident, capable, and included in their learning environment. After teaching for 25 years at the middle school band level, I wanted to try elementary school music and I have truly enjoyed the experience. Three years later, I am still going strong and looking forward to many more years.\r\n\r\nAs with any school, the teacher becomes an integral part of getting students engaged in class. Everything changed this year when the students saw the drumsticks (taped with black and white electric tape to help prolong the life of them) and the buckets. As soon as I provided instructions on playing the buckets, care of the instruments, and how we received the items, they were extremely excited and could not wait to get started. Instead of going to other instruments, the students go directly to the buckets. It has really given them a sense of pride knowing someone they have never met provided these items for them.\r\n\r\nThe next step is starting a bucket drumline with xylophones. We have been working hard for the past two months hearing and playing together the same and various rhythms while maintaining a steady beat. I believe we will achieve this goal of starting a bucket drumline within the next few months. Yes, it's different but I believe my students will meet this goal.","fullyFundedDate":1752586434943,"projectUrl":"project/do-you-accept-the-bucket-challenge/9451421/","projectTitle":"Do You Accept the Bucket Challenge?","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2481602_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1450638604790","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2481602"},{"teacherId":8727192,"projectId":9165257,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our project, \"Sensory and Snack Friendly Classroom: Creating a Calm Autism Space.\" Your generosity has truly made a difference for my students. The food items you helped provide are now a special part of our daily routine — used not only for snack time but also as positive reinforcement to encourage participation and good behavior. Snack time has become a moment of comfort and connection in our classroom.\r\n\r\nMy students were thrilled when they first saw all the treats and supplies! Their excitement was contagious — many smiled, clapped, and eagerly pointed to their favorite snacks. For my students who are nonverbal or have difficulty expressing emotions, this project has provided a wonderful way to motivate and engage them. The sensory-friendly and snack-based rewards help them stay calm, focused, and ready to learn throughout the day.\r\n\r\nBecause of your kindness, our classroom feels more joyful and supportive.
