The students I teach are in 6-8 grades. Many of my students, no matter the grade, have little to no experience in playing a musical instrument which can be challenging but also rewarding for them. They love music and want to make music with friends while taking their experience learning music and sharing it with the school and, most importantly, their families. Our school is in the high poverty income level, making it difficult to fund projects necessary for the class. Despite this issue, students continuously come in with much energy to perform on their instruments to the best of their ability. They perform for holiday and spring concerts, pep rallies, GMEA festivals, award ceremonies, and other small events throughout the year.
