Having access to this novel is incredibly meaningful for our students, because it is so important for children to see themselves reflected in the books they read. Ghost is one of those rare stories that immediately grabs students' attention and allows them to connect deeply with the characters and themes. We are truly grateful to have such an impactful and engaging book in our classroom.\r\n\r\nWhile reading Ghost, students are participating in rich learning experiences that go far beyond simply turning pages. They are engaging in Socratic seminars and ongoing asynchronous discussion boards with classmates in other class periods, where they discuss the story, make predictions, and connect the text to their own lives, other books, and the world around them. Through these conversations, students are learning how to thoughtfully participate in literary discourse. They are also building vocabulary, responding to the text in reading response journals, exploring figurative language, closely analyzing characters and character development, and strengthening their overall reading comprehension.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting outcomes has been seeing even our most reluctant readers become motivated and enthusiastic about reading. Because Ghost is part of a series, many students who finish the book are eagerly heading to the media center to check out the next titles on their own. We are also working to bring Jason Reynolds to speak to our students about Ghost and his journey as a writer, which would make this experience even more powerful. Thank you again for your generosity and support—this class set of Ghost is making a lasting difference in our students' lives, and we are so thankful for you.","fullyFundedDate":1765074288874,"projectUrl":"project/on-your-mark-get-set-ghost-books-insp/9943806/","projectTitle":"On Your Mark, Get Set, Ghost! Your support has made an incredible difference in our classroom, and I am so grateful you chose to invest in my students.\r\n\r\nSince the arrival of our flexible seating options, I have witnessed firsthand the positive impact they have had on my students, especially those with ADHD and autism. Having the ability to move, wiggle, or choose a seat that fits their needs has allowed these students to better regulate their energy and emotions, while staying more engaged in their learning. For many of them, this has been the difference between constant frustration and the ability to focus and succeed.\r\n\r\nIt has been inspiring to see students who once struggled to stay in their seats now actively participating in lessons and working with greater confidence. The classroom feels calmer, more inclusive, and more student-centered. Flexible seating has truly created an environment where every child feels they have a place and the tools they need to thrive.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has gone far beyond simply purchasing classroom furniture, you have given my students the gift of comfort, focus, and confidence in their own learning. On behalf of myself and my students, thank you for believing in them and making our classroom a place where every learner can succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1747849754022,"projectUrl":"project/flexible-seating-for-energetic-6th-grade/9097510/","projectTitle":"Flexible Seating for Energetic 6th Graders","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kulczak","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9915917_orig.jpg?crop=363,363,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738676605724","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9915917"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_94344","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":876,"numTeachers":70,"percentFrplEligible":64,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":55,"percentWhite":14,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":17,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":74.0,"schoolId":94344,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bennett's Mill Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bennett's Mill Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/fayette-county-school-district/bennett-s-mill-middle-school/94344"}
