The printer gave my students the ability to create, communicate, advocate, and serve, all while working toward an important goal: helping students throughout our school continue reading and learning during the summer months.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and for investing in their ideas. Your support has shown them that their words have power, their actions matter, and they can make a positive difference in their school community.\r\n\r\nYour generous support provided our classroom with a printer that became much more than a piece of technology—it became a tool that empowered my students to become literacy advocates within our school community.\r\n\r\nOne of the goals of this project was to give my students the opportunity to take an active role in helping prevent the summer slide among students in our school building. With access to our new printer, students were able to create and print signs encouraging families, staff, and members of our school community to donate books. They proudly posted their signs throughout the school to spread the message that every child deserves access to books and opportunities to read over the summer.\r\n\r\nThis project allowed my students to see that their voices and actions can make a difference. They were not simply learning about literacy—they were using literacy for a real purpose. As they created their signs, students practiced writing, spelling, communicating ideas, and thinking about how their words could inspire others to take action.\r\n\r\nThe book donation campaign also helped students understand the importance of giving back. They learned that when we work together, we can create opportunities for other children to learn and grow. A simple sign created by a student could encourage someone to donate a book, and that book could become a child's favorite story, strengthen their reading skills, or inspire a lifelong love of reading.","fullyFundedDate":1778528948791,"projectUrl":"project/printing-for-purpose-promoting-literacy/10221141/","projectTitle":"Printing for Purpose: Promoting Literacy & Preventing Summer Slide","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Holmes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6000131_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1704753545685","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6000131"},{"teacherId":6000131,"projectId":10150794,"letterContent":"Dear Donors,\r\n\r\nThank you so much for supporting my project, \"Stopping the Summer Slide: Building Lifelong Readers Part 2!\" Your generosity provided my students with books and literacy resources that helped them continue learning, exploring, and growing as readers during the summer months.\r\n\r\nAs an educator, I know that reading practice cannot stop simply because the school year ends. Summer should be a time for children to relax and have fun, but it can also be an important opportunity for students to strengthen their literacy skills and develop a genuine love for reading. Your support helped make sure that my students had access to engaging books and literacy materials that they could enjoy at home throughout the summer.\r\n\r\nThe books allowed my students to choose stories that sparked their interests, encouraged their imaginations, and gave them opportunities to practice reading independently. Rather than viewing reading as just another school assignment, students were able to experience books as something exciting, enjoyable, and meaningful.\r\n\r\nYour donations also helped me reinforce an important message with my students: reading is an adventure that does not end when the school year does. Whether they were reading with a family member, reading independently, or simply exploring a new book, every page provided an opportunity to build vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, increase fluency, and grow their confidence.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, your generosity helped create opportunities for students to enter the new school year with stronger reading habits and a continued love for books.
