Many of my students are first-generation college students or come from communities where access to resources can be limited. By providing laptops and microwaves, we are helping remove barriers that can affect both academic success and personal well-being.\r\n\r\nThe laptops will allow students to complete assignments, conduct research, attend virtual meetings or classes, apply for scholarships, and strengthen the digital literacy skills necessary for college and future careers. Access to reliable technology gives students the confidence to stay organized, connected, and prepared in a fast-paced academic environment.\r\n\r\nThe microwaves will support students in maintaining healthier routines and managing daily living responsibilities while living on campus or away from home for the first time. Having the ability to prepare quick meals, heat leftovers, and reduce food expenses can make a major difference in helping students feel comfortable and supported during this transition.\r\n\r\nTogether, these resources represent more than just technology and appliances — they represent opportunity, preparation, and encouragement. This project helps students begin their college journey with tools that support independence, wellness, and long-term success.","fullyFundedDate":1778778849846,"projectUrl":"project/college-ready-tech-and-essentials-for-s/10275124/","projectTitle":"College Ready: Tech and Essentials for Student Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Strozier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5278728_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1524090566236","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/t-strozier"},{"teacherId":5278728,"projectId":10274799,"letterContent":"The laptops provided through this project have made a tremendous impact on my students' learning and college readiness. Many of my students come from communities where access to reliable technology outside of school is limited, so having their own laptop gives them the opportunity to work independently, stay organized, and build confidence using the same technology they will encounter in college and future careers.\r\n\r\nIn the classroom, the laptops are helping students complete research, create presentations, apply for scholarships, explore colleges, and strengthen important digital literacy skills. As a Healthcare Science teacher, technology is also essential for students to participate in online learning platforms, complete healthcare-related assignments, and prepare for certifications and career opportunities. These laptops allow learning to continue beyond the classroom walls.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting for students is the sense of ownership and possibility that comes with receiving a laptop. Many students immediately began talking about using them for college applications, virtual orientations, resumes, budgeting, and staying connected academically once they graduate. For some students, this is the first personal laptop they have ever had access to.\r\n\r\nSeveral of my seniors, especially those preparing to attend college away from home, have expressed how much this project reduced their stress and anxiety about being prepared. Students who are highly motivated but may have faced financial barriers now feel more confident knowing they will have the technology needed to succeed. The laptops are not just devices — they are tools that open doors, increase access, and remind students that people believe in their future.","fullyFundedDate":1778178432044,"projectUrl":"project/college-ready-laptops-for-student-succe/10274799/","projectTitle":"College Ready: Laptops for Student Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Strozier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5278728_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1524090566236","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/t-strozier"},{"teacherId":5278728,"projectId":10274039,"letterContent":"The impact of this project goes far beyond providing mini refrigerators. For many of my students, transitioning to college is their first experience living away from home and managing daily responsibilities independently. Having access to a compact refrigerator will help students store healthy meals, keep snacks and drinks available, and reduce the financial stress of constantly purchasing food on campus.\r\n\r\nThis project helps remove barriers that often affect first-generation and underrepresented college students. Something as simple as being able to store leftovers, meal prep, or keep basic groceries available can support healthier habits, better time management, and overall wellness during a major life transition.\r\n\r\nBy helping students meet their basic living needs, we are also supporting their academic success. When students feel prepared, supported, and comfortable in their new environment, they are better able to focus on their coursework, stay engaged, and persist through challenges. These mini refrigerators represent more than convenience — they represent stability, encouragement, and a community that believes in our students' future.","fullyFundedDate":1778169239889,"projectUrl":"project/removing-barriers-supporting-college-bo/10274039/","projectTitle":"Removing Barriers: Supporting College Bound Seniors","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Strozier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5278728_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1524090566236","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/t-strozier"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_48715","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1121,"numTeachers":68,"percentFrplEligible":86,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":90,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.6,"schoolId":48715,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cedar Grove High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cedar Grove High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/dekalb-county-school-district/cedar-grove-high-school/48715"}
