Your generosity directly impacts the daily experience of children who participate in our 21st Century After School Program, where learning does not stop when the school day ends. Instead, it continues through tutoring, enrichment activities, social-emotional learning, and relationship building. However, one of the most basic needs—access to food—can often determine how well students are able to engage in all of these opportunities.\r\n\r\nMany of my students come to after school programs after a full day of academic learning. By that time, they are often hungry, tired, and mentally drained. Hunger is not just a physical discomfort; it affects concentration, emotional regulation, behavior, and motivation. When students are hungry, it becomes harder for them to focus on homework help, participate in group activities, or even interact positively with their peers. For some of my students, especially those with special needs or sensory processing challenges, hunger can intensify frustration, anxiety, or difficulty self-regulating.\r\n\r\nYour support ensures that every student, regardless of their home situation, has access to a simple but powerful resource: a snack. Something as small as a granola bar, crackers, or fruit snacks can completely shift a student's ability to engage. It provides immediate relief, restores energy, and creates a sense of stability and care. When students are not worried about hunger, they are more open to learning, more willing to participate, and more emotionally available to connect with others.\r\n\r\nIn our program, snacks are not just about food—they are about equity and access. Some of our students rely heavily on school-provided meals, and the after school hours can be especially challenging. By providing consistent snacks, we are helping bridge that gap and ensuring that no child is left struggling through learning on an empty stomach. This support helps level the playing field so that all students, regardless of background, can fully participate in enrichment opportunities.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, snack time also serves as a moment of community. It gives students a chance to pause, reset, and connect with peers and staff in a calm, positive environment. These small moments help build trust, improve behavior, and strengthen relationships within our program. Students feel seen, cared for, and valued—not just as learners, but as individuals with real needs that matter.\r\n\r\nYour donation will have a lasting impact that goes beyond the snacks themselves. It supports student success, emotional well-being, and overall school engagement. It helps create an environment where students can thrive instead of simply get through the day. Most importantly, it sends a powerful message to each child: you matter, your needs matter, and there are people who care about your success.\r\n\r\nThank you for partnering with us to make this possible. Your support truly helps fuel both the minds and hearts of our students every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1768321513560,"projectUrl":"project/snacks-for-success-after-the-bell/10009362/","projectTitle":"Snacks for Success After the Bell","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Odum","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10090232_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768152606969","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10090232"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_94032","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":493,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":78,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":32,"percentWhite":38,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":22,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 9","studentTeacherRatio":"16.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":11.1,"schoolId":94032,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about G.W.
