In an age where electronics often compete for their attention, these physical books have created a meaningful shift in our classroom by reminding students that reading can be both exciting and deeply personal.\r\n\r\nThe new texts have allowed us to introduce and strengthen several essential literacy skills. Students are practicing making predictions, analyzing character motivations, identifying themes, and supporting their thinking with text evidence. We are also focusing on building reading stamina—something many students struggle with due to limited exposure to longer, sustained reading opportunities outside of school. These books give them that much-needed practice in a way that feels fun and accessible.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is now a much more vibrant experience. Students choose books during independent reading time, share recommendations with classmates, and participate in small-group discussions that help them think more deeply about what they're reading. Our classroom library has become a place of excitement, and students often rush to be the first to check out certain titles.\r\n\r\nThere are several students who have shown remarkable growth because of these new additions. A few reluctant readers who previously preferred their phones or tablets are now asking if they can read \"just a few more pages.\" One student in particular—who once struggled to finish even short passages—has become completely hooked on a new series and proudly shares updates with the class each morning. Another student who rarely spoke up during lessons now participates eagerly during book talks because she finally found stories that feel relatable to her.\r\n\r\nYour donation has done far more than supply books—it has helped build confidence, curiosity, and a genuine love for reading. You've given my students the chance to see themselves as readers, and that is a gift that will continue to impact them far beyond this school year. Thank you for believing in them and helping create a classroom where books matter.","fullyFundedDate":1761534714662,"projectUrl":"project/turning-pages-opening-minds/9448513/","projectTitle":"Turning Pages, Opening Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Speranza","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6954291_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1751899285891","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6954291"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_48225","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1591,"numTeachers":102,"percentFrplEligible":86,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":28,"percentWhite":44,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":22,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.8,"schoolId":48225,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Coffee Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Coffee Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/coffee-county-school-district/coffee-middle-school/48225"}
