These games and materials have already made a meaningful impact on our classroom learning and engagement.\r\n For my 3rd graders, I used the chess games as part of a lesson in our Sir Face unit, where we explored the Middle Ages. During the lesson, students learned how the chess board and pieces relate to Medieval Times and how kings used chess as a way to plan battle strategies. After learning the historical connections, students learned how to play chess themselves. It was exciting to see them begin to apply critical thinking and strategy skills during gameplay.\r\n Because my 3rd grade group was so large this year, I truly needed additional chess boards to properly implement the lesson and allow students enough opportunities to practice and learn. Thanks to your generosity, every student was able to actively participate. The chess boards have also benefited all of my grade levels, as students across my classroom are now learning and practicing chess during our strategy sessions and enrichment activities.\r\n My students were thrilled when the first saw the materials arrive. Some of them had previously played Chameleon when I borrowed the game in past years, and they constantly asked when they would get to play it again. They were so excited to learn that our classroom finally had its own copy. Students love using the game to strengthen their reasoning, communication, and debating skills while having fun together.\r\n Some of my older students first learned chess in my classroom and have truly taken off with it over the years. They were especially excited to explore the Chess Puzzle Book and immediately wanted to begin solving the challenges inside. It has encouraged them to think even more deeply about strategy and problem solving.\r\n None of my students had ever played O-trio before, but once they learned the game, they did not want to stop playing. The quickly became engaged in the strategic thinking the game requires.\r\n These resources will continue to be used with all of my students during strategy sessions that focus on creative thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Moving forward, students will continue building on their ability to strategize. Additionally, the chess boards will ensure that I can continue fully implementing my Sir Face unit in future years, regardless of class size.\r\n Thank you again for investing in my students and helping create meaningful learning experiences that they will remember for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1769177027703,"projectUrl":"project/chess-in-the-classroom-the-world-of-str/9840484/","projectTitle":"Chess in the Classroom: The World of Strategic Thinking","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Robbins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9740582"},{"teacherId":3467940,"projectId":9382749,"letterContent":"My scholars were so excited to see the mini sofa and plush chairs! Supplying healthy, enjoyable snacks helped to meet a critical need for many children who may have faced food insecurity during the summer.\r\n\r\nThis project made a lasting impact by blending fun with meaningful resources, allowing students to celebrate their growth, continue learning, and feel supported even after the school doors close.
