The first time my students saw the materials, their eyes lit up with excitement. They immediately wanted to start building and experimenting. One of my favorite moments so far was when a small group worked together to create a tall tower, and then carefully designed a bridge that connected two separate structures. Watching them problem-solve, share ideas, and celebrate each small success was incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nWe plan to take our learning further by challenging students to design structures that can hold a certain amount of weight or connect multiple pieces in creative ways. This will help them explore concepts like balance, stability, and engineering design while continuing to encourage collaboration and creativity. \r\n\r\nThanks to your support, our students are diving into hands-on STEM learning in a way that is fun, engaging, and inspiring!","fullyFundedDate":1769201462708,"projectUrl":"project/where-ideas-click-engineering-foundatio/9983043/","projectTitle":"Where Ideas Click: Engineering Foundations With Blockaroo","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kight","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6483467_orig.png?crop=2432,2432,x0,y226&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1767725893807","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kightsteamlab"},{"teacherId":6483467,"projectId":9852535,"letterContent":"The two incubators will be used as part of a hands-on life science unit beginning in February, when conditions best align with nature's breeding season. Students will observe the full life cycle of chicks, from egg development to hatching, while learning about responsibility, care, and the principles of scientific observation. One of our first classroom moments was unboxing the incubators together. Students immediately began making predictions about what chicks need to grow and survive. They will keep simple observation journals, monitor temperature and humidity, and discuss changes they notice each day, turning a real-world process into a meaningful STEM learning experience. The excitement was unforgettable. As soon as students saw the incubators, the room filled with gasps, cheers, and questions like, \"Are there really going to be babies in there?\" and \"When will they hatch?\" Many students shared personal connections to farms or animals, while others said it would be their first time ever seeing a chick hatch. The incubators instantly sparked curiosity and wonder, helping students feel connected to science in a real and memorable way. Over the coming weeks, students will deepen their learning by tracking chick development, comparing predictions to observations, and discussing how living things grow and change. This project will also connect to math, literacy, and social-emotional learning as students count days, sequence events, and practice empathy and responsibility. Thanks to our donors, students will experience science as something alive and meaningful, an experience they will remember long after the chicks hatch.","fullyFundedDate":1763563755076,"projectUrl":"project/crack-open-curiosity-an-egg-citing-stem/9852535/","projectTitle":"Crack Open Curiosity: An Egg-Citing STEM Experience!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kight","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6483467_orig.png?crop=2432,2432,x0,y226&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1767725893807","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kightsteamlab"},{"teacherId":6483467,"projectId":9706226,"letterContent":"Our light table has transformed how students explore and investigate in our K–3 STEM classroom. Students regularly use the light table with magnet tiles and real animal x-rays donated by our local veterinarian to build, test, and observe. During one memorable lesson, students constructed structures using magnet tiles directly on the light table and then examined animal x-rays underneath. They compared bones, identified shapes, and made connections between structure and function. Students worked collaboratively, asked thoughtful questions, and eagerly explained their discoveries, blending science, engineering, and critical thinking in a hands-on way.\r\n The reaction was pure excitement and awe. As soon as the light table was turned on, students gathered around with gasps, smiles, and nonstop questions. Seeing the magnet tiles glow and the x-rays come to life instantly sparked curiosity. Many students shared that they felt like \"real scientists\" and couldn't wait for their turn to explore. The light table immediately made learning feel engaging, special, and meaningful for all learners.\r\n Next, students will continue using the light table to deepen their understanding of life science, engineering, and problem-solving. They will design stronger structures with magnet tiles, compare animal skeletons using x-rays, and begin making predictions about how bones help animals move and survive. As lessons progress, students will transition from guided exploration to open-ended STEM challenges, encouraging them to ask questions, test ideas, and communicate their thinking. Thanks to our donors, students are experiencing rich, hands-on learning that inspires curiosity and builds a strong foundation in STEM.","fullyFundedDate":1759431856737,"projectUrl":"project/illuminating-stem-a-light-table-for-you/9706226/","projectTitle":"Illuminating STEM: A Light Table for Young Innovators","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kight","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6483467_orig.png?crop=2432,2432,x0,y226&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1767725893807","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kightsteamlab"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_47912","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1886,"numTeachers":105,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":31,"percentWhite":34,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":24,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":6,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 3","studentTeacherRatio":"18.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":54.1,"schoolId":47912,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Carrollton Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Carrollton Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/carrollton-city-school-district/carrollton-elementary-school/47912"}
