The butterfly and plant life cycle magnets turned our whiteboard into a living timeline. With the Clip-itz cards, students physically ordered stages, defended their thinking, and used vocabulary like pupa, chrysalis, and adult with confidence. Engagement shot up the moment the magnets hit the board. The room went from \"worksheet quiet\" to \"scientist buzz.\"\r\n\r\nThese materials also unlocked reading and writing. Content-rich books on frogs, butterflies, magnets, Georgia history, and economics gave my developing readers accessible, high-interest texts. During small groups, students annotated with sticky flags, then wrote short explanations using sentence frames. Several of my reluctant writers produced their longest pieces of the year because they could point to a magnet or specimen and say, \"I can explain that.\"\r\n\r\nYour gift mattered for equity too. I teach at a Title I school with twenty-four second graders who need concrete experiences. Hands-on kits meant every child could touch, move, and model ideas. Students receiving interventions were able to show understanding by building and explaining before they wrote. That leveled the playing field.\r\n\r\nThank you for trusting us. You did not just fund supplies. You funded wonder, talk, and pride. My class now says, \"We are scientists.\" That shift will last well beyond this unit.","fullyFundedDate":1746785904080,"projectUrl":"project/wanted-learning-tools-to-unlock-science/9307302/","projectTitle":"Wanted: Learning Tools to Unlock Science Wonders","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Lyons","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9102828_orig.jpg?crop=997,997,x3,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720476676822","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9102828"},{"teacherId":3203968,"projectId":8924534,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for helping bring our DonorsChoose project to life. Because of your generosity, our middle school math book club, Pi & Pages, has been reading The Number Devil and Chasing Vermeer. These books have sparked meaningful conversations and helped my students view math in a fresh and exciting light. They are learning to recognize patterns, use logical reasoning, ask thoughtful questions, and solve problems, all while building their reading skills and confidence.\r\n\r\nDuring our club meetings, students work in small groups to discuss the characters, make predictions, and connect the math concepts in the stories to real-world situations. Chasing Vermeer introduced us to pentominoes and puzzles, while The Number Devil led to fun discussions about infinity, square roots, and prime numbers. One 7th grader, who usually avoids reading novels, said that The Number Devil made math feel fun and mysterious. He brought up ideas from the book in class and began to ask more curious questions than ever before.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, reading in our classroom has become a place where math and storytelling come together.
