Having Hustle in their hands empowers them to read closely, reflect honestly, and participate in rich discussions about what it truly means to lead with integrity. These conversations are helping them develop the mindset and habits needed to grow not only as students, but as emerging leaders within our school community.\r\n\r\nWe are incredibly grateful for your support and belief in our work. We are a Title I school, so getting supplies is sometimes difficult. The teacher stamps have been a huge hit for giving instant feedback, and students are motivated to earn their stamps as a sign of progress.\r\n\r\nOne of our favorite moments so far was creating laminated station reviews for our ecology unit students worked together to solve problems, wiped the cards clean, and passed them along to the next group. This kept the activity engaging and reusable for future classes.\r\n\r\nNext, we are planning to expand our use of these resources to create reusable lab instructions and station activities, giving students more hands-on opportunities to practice science skills while keeping materials neat and organized. Students worked in teams to model transcription by matching base-pair tiles, then used tRNA anticodon pieces and a codon wheel to \"translate\" into amino acids and snap together a polypeptide chain. My favorite moment was when a group swapped just one base to test a \"mutation\" tile—watching their chain change (and sometimes stop early!) turned a tough idea into an instant aha about how genotype affects phenotype.\r\n\r\nThe materials were a hit several students said, \"It's like LEGO for biology!\" Even my quieter learners jumped in because the color-coding and tactile pieces made the steps feel doable. Our multilingual learners used the picture key and sentence frames to explain each step, and students with IEPs stayed engaged longer with the hands-on build. On the exit ticket that day, most students correctly explained the difference between transcription and translation in their own words.\r\n\r\nNext week, we're using the manipulatives in review stations to compare normal and mutated sequences and to classify missense vs. nonsense changes. Then we'll apply it to a real-world case (e.g., sickle-cell hemoglobin) and have students create a short CER (Claim-Evidence-Reasoning) or mini-infographic showing how a DNA change can alter a protein's structure and function. Your support turned an abstract process into something students can build, test, and truly understand thank you!","fullyFundedDate":1743951065568,"projectUrl":"project/from-dna-to-proteins-unlocking-genetics/9235545/","projectTitle":"From DNA to Proteins: Unlocking Genetics for All Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brooks","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7228866_orig.png?crop=471,471,x26,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743789438628","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7228866"},{"teacherId":8590589,"projectId":9060193,"letterContent":"I hope this message finds you all doing well! On behalf of the entire baseball team, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation of healthy snacks. Your thoughtful contribution has made a significant impact on the team, not only by supporting their physical health but also by enhancing their overall performance and energy levels during practices and games.\r\nSince receiving the snacks, our athletes have been able to fuel up with nutritious options that keep them energized throughout the day. Whether it's a quick snack between drills or something to help them recharge after a long practice, the snacks have been a wonderful addition to our routine. The players have already shared how much they appreciate the variety and how it's helped them feel more focused and ready to take on the challenges of each game.\r\nI want to share one specific moment with you. During a recent practice, the team had a particularly intense workout, and after finishing, we handed out the healthy snacks. You should have seen the smiles on their faces as they grabbed their snacks – it was clear how much they appreciated not just the food but the care behind it. They're always looking for ways to perform their best, and having nourishing options available made a noticeable difference in their enthusiasm and teamwork.\r\nWe can't thank you enough for your support.
