For kiddos working really hard on target behaviors, their chosen reward is to have unstructured carpet time with a cushion. Other students are not quite at this point yet, but by or after winter break, many more friends will be earning the reward, and ready to handle more responsibility.\r\n\r\nOn a personal note, I was asked to move from second to first grade. When I said yes, I had no idea what a huge developmental jump that would be. As mentors of mine say, \"The knowing is in the doing.\" My vision and intention for this classroom feature came through my second grade lens. The first quarter of teaching first grade involved some major learning curves, adaptation, and with first day counts, our school collapsed classes and added units per our district demands. As a result, I handed my first grade class over to another teacher to tend to and care for. I'm now teaching an advanced math and science class for a fourth grade cohort, and a fifth grade group. \r\n\r\nIf there is anything that I've learned, it's to be flexible and to constantly reinforce that I want my students to be successful. When I ask them what Ms. Manning wants for them, they respond (in an outside voice), \"To be successful!\" They absolutely love the cushions, and the current teacher is using them in her own way, so your gift continues to give. Thank you so much for your care and generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1754055802245,"projectUrl":"project/literacy-flexible-seating-for-first-gr/9475144/","projectTitle":"Literacy & Flexible Seating for First Graders!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Manning","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9280214"},{"teacherId":9033717,"projectId":9540666,"letterContent":"The children are thrilled to be able to use the microscope during science to investigate the slides that came with it and other tiny objects.\r\nWe are excited to be able to have everything we need to plant and to use the see through planter to watch how roots grow during our life science time. \r\nA number of the students need fidgets to help them focus so they are happy to have them to use.\r\nThe math game activities will make learning math more interesting and fun for the students to be able to participate in hands on learning.","fullyFundedDate":1755729829399,"projectUrl":"project/science-and-math-fun/9540666/","projectTitle":"Science and Math Fun","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Moran","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9033717"},{"teacherId":8987788,"projectId":9427260,"letterContent":"Small group time is the most impactful part of our day, and thanks to the new stools, it has become even more effective. Before, the bulky chairs made it difficult to fit everyone at the table, but now I can bring more students together comfortably. One student said, \"It looks so fun in here now!\" Their enthusiasm has carried over into our small group lessons, making the space feel more inviting and engaging.\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students not only have a learning environment that supports their needs, but one that excites them to participate. Its organization and storage have created a more efficient and inviting learning environment. My students, a vibrant mix of typically developing children and those with IEPs, have directly benefited from this improved setup. The desk's compartments keep essential materials easily accessible, allowing for smoother transitions between activities. This has significantly reduced classroom clutter, opening up valuable floor space for our 4-year-old scholars to explore and engage in active learning.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our current classroom project focuses on learning about community helpers. With the help of the teacher's desk, we can effectively organize and display the materials we've gathered for the project on the back cabinet, where my personal items once were. This new arrangement gives students easy access to the items they need. The improved organization will facilitate smooth collaboration, ensuring all students have equal access to necessary resources and making transitions seamless without concerns about important documents getting in the way.","fullyFundedDate":1728050901951,"projectUrl":"project/a-fresh-start-a-new-year-of-organizatio/8473288/","projectTitle":"A Fresh Start: A New Year of Organization","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8784041_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1687382783061","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8784041"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_47325","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1054,"numTeachers":74,"percentFrplEligible":93,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":42,"percentWhite":28,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":21,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":56.0,"schoolId":47325,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Holly Hill School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Holly Hill School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/volusia-county-schools/holly-hill-elementary-school/47325"}
