Through this text, students practiced key literacy skills such as analyzing theme, identifying point of view, making inferences, and citing textual evidence to support their thinking.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom became more reflective and discussion-driven as students shared reactions, asked thoughtful questions, and made personal connections to Gerda's resilience and courage. Several students who are usually quiet became more engaged, eager to talk about how the memoir changed their understanding of perseverance and empathy. Your support helped turn history into a meaningful, human experience for my students. Because of your contributions, we were able to replace harsh fluorescent lighting with three stand-alone torchier lamps, and the difference has been truly remarkable. From the moment the lamps were turned on, students immediately noticed the softer, warmer lighting. Several commented on how \"relaxed\" and \"comfortable\" the room felt, and I could see a visible shift in their focus and overall mood.\r\n\r\nWe now use this new lighting every day, especially for reading, writing, and discussion. One particularly meaningful moment occurred during a recent independent reading session—students who often struggle to settle in were noticeably more engaged and sustained their attention longer than usual. The calmer atmosphere has helped reduce distractions and created a space where students feel more at ease sharing their thoughts and participating in class.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will continue to use this improved environment to support deeper learning, especially during collaborative projects and reflective writing assignments. My goal is to build on this sense of comfort and focus by incorporating more student-centered activities that encourage creativity, critical thinking, and open discussion. Your generosity has not only changed the lighting in our classroom—it has transformed the way my students experience learning each day.","fullyFundedDate":1767133450661,"projectUrl":"project/please-help-all-my-students-light-their/9825207/","projectTitle":"Please Help All My Students \"Light Their Way\"","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shaver","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6030389_orig.jpg?crop=272,272,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1574175556748","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6030389"},{"teacherId":5093623,"projectId":9482666,"letterContent":"When the lamps with USB chargers arrived, my students were so excited! The first time we plugged them in and turned them on, the entire classroom immediately felt brighter and more welcoming. Several students commented on how much easier it was to focus on their reading and writing with the extra light, and many of them quickly started using the USB ports to charge their devices so they could stay engaged without worrying about low batteries.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was during our independent reading time. A few students gathered around a lamp at their table, and one of them said, \"It feels like we're in our own little study space.\" That small change made them feel more comfortable and motivated, which is exactly what I had hoped for when writing this project.\r\n\r\nWe are now using the lamps daily during group work and independent projects. They've helped create flexible, student-centered spaces where everyone has the tools they need to succeed. Looking ahead, my students are beginning a research project that will require both reading and writing on their devices. With the lamps in place, they can stay organized, charged, and focused as they dive into their topics.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has not only brightened our classroom, it has lit up my students' excitement for learning.
