Students were encouraged to think about their own dreams for their school, community, and world and then bring those dreams to life through art.\r\n\r\nThe donated materials did much more than provide supplies—they helped create an art classroom where students could dream, create, express themselves, and believe that their ideas matter. Having quality materials available allowed students to experiment with color, pattern, line, and design while developing confidence in their artistic abilities.\r\n\r\nBring able to participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. art contest also gave students a meaningful reason to take pride in their work. They couldn't wait to look through the colorful stories, choose books that interested them, and begin reading. The Biscuit, Pinkalicious, Fancy Nancy, and Scholastic books have quickly become classroom favorites.\r\n\r\nThe leveled books are especially helpful because they allow me to provide students with books that match their individual reading abilities. My students can practice the skills we are learning in class while building confidence and developing the important understanding that they are readers!\r\n\r\nThe Fidget Game literacy and math activities have also been a wonderful addition to our classroom. Kindergarten students learn best when they are actively engaged, and these hands-on games allow them to practice sight words, early literacy, and math skills while having fun. It is wonderful to see students helping one another, celebrating when they recognize a word, and becoming more confident with each activity.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, my students will use these materials during independent reading, small-group instruction, literacy centers, and classroom learning activities. What started as an exciting new classroom resource has quickly become one of our favorite weekly traditions. Fridays are now affectionately known as our \"Scholastic News Fridays,\" and my students genuinely look forward to discovering what new topics they'll be learning about. From fascinating facts about bats and pumpkins to learning about the important work of firefighters, each issue brings something new to our classroom. One particularly special connection was when we explored an article about firefighters, as one of my students has a parent who serves as a firefighter!\r\n\r\nBeyond the excitement, these magazines have become an incredibly valuable part of our literacy instruction. We incorporate them into our morning work, where students practice reading informational texts, identifying key details, and strengthening their nonfiction comprehension skills. The comprehension questions allow me to check their understanding, while the accompanying videos help build background knowledge and spark meaningful classroom discussions. I especially love watching my students ask thoughtful questions, make connections to their own experiences, and become more confident sharing what they've learned.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing children genuinely excited about reading and learning. Scholastic News has helped me create those moments while making nonfiction reading both accessible and enjoyable.
