We were a tangled mess of multiple tags on hooks before the peg board to organize by teacher they will be helping. The badge holders saved us from the frayed laminated version we started with. It is so much easier to make new tags when new opportunities arise. The new lanyards are so durable and colourful! We will be washing them over the break and not worry about them falling apart as the old ones did. The clock is large and can be seen from anywhere in the room for students to read and manage their time. \r\n\r\nBecause we needed these supplies so much, the students were very excited to assemble the new badges and pegboard. We can easily see when someone is missing from reporting back and from which assignment to locate them and the badge/lanyard. The pencil sharpeners you gave us is not only allowing us to get our pencils sharpened but it is allowing us to help out other classes on campus get their pencils sharpened too.\r\n\r\nI really wish I had taken a picture right when they used the sharpener for this first time and saw it actually light up since the class's faces lit up too!\r\n\r\nNow they are in charge of collecting pencils from several classes, sharpen them and then get them back to that teacher. They love the recognition they get as well as being able to earn the ability to actually take the pencils back to the teacher that made the request for help.\r\n\r\nMy students feel that they are making a difference in so many classes and this is helping their self esteem and their work effort. We began the project learning about robots and the careers available. We discussed pros and cons, AI, can a robot do everything a human can? We enjoyed our discussions and students are aware of the many options they have for their futures in technology. \r\nWe finished the project by designing robots. We brainstormed as groups all the tasks we would want a robot to do, the skies the limit! \r\nThen we used shapes with measurements to design our sweet robots. They brainstormed 3 thumbnail options with these shapes or \"parts\" then drew one more detailed exact version once they settled on their final design. \r\nWhen they mastered measuring the shapes exactly, they were surprised that the rectangle \"part\" that was 32.5 x 42.5 mm is actually a box of nerds candy! We now know skittles are 13.5 mm round. Dum dums and life savers, as well as starbursts. transformed from shapes to a sweet surprise and reward for pushing through to the end of the project. Some students were off just a bit and asked if they could just trace the candy, nope, use your ruler and measure!!! They felt accomplished and excited they earned the reward for their hard work. \r\nThe sweet part of the robots project were kept secret, the students just had \"parts\" a ball joint (dum dum), or a washer (life saver)... to design with. It was a struggle for some to erase and redraw because they didn't plan for the length correctly, but they were really happy when they realized that very long ball joint meant they get to keep a dum dum!\r\nSome were great about helping others when they had their set of sweet robot parts. Encouraging or correcting measurements so others could finish on time as well. \r\nOur next step forward is learning more about exact measurements and CAD designing. We will first learn tinkercad, then try to recreate an actual item, accurately as a cad file.
