We have been reading up on life skills with the books. In ELA, we work in small groups and do some shared reading. The discussions that follow on jobs and living alone are enlightening. The students have had great discussions, and working with students in an exceptional education classroom has been amazing! We made one recipe from the book as a whole class, and we expect to do more after Christmas break.\r\n\r\nWhen the packages arrived, we had an 'unboxing,' and the students thought that was the coolest thing. The first package to arrive was the lock/screw manipulative. We had students work in pairs to get a turn with them. We continue to use them as a center on Fridays, and some students have made great progress in manipulating the materials.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue cooking with the recipe book and make some great single-serving meals. We are using the books we received about job interviews, resumes, shopping, and living alone to plan some mock scenarios to practice for when those situations arise.\r\n\r\nWe are extremely grateful and thank all the donors. The students love the materials, and the things they have learned and gained are immeasurable.","fullyFundedDate":1731532535709,"projectUrl":"project/transition-from-high-school-to-adulthood/8939644/","projectTitle":"Transition From High School to Adulthood","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cooper","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2425532"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_42786","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1956,"numTeachers":87,"percentFrplEligible":63,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":49,"percentWhite":16,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":29,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"22.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":48.9,"schoolId":42786,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Fort Pierce Westwood Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Fort Pierce Westwood Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/st-lucie-public-schools/ft-pierce-westwood-high-school/42786"}
