First, I shook the box and they all became curious about what could be sent to our classroom with all that noise.\r\n\r\nThey were so excited to see the box of so many musical instruments! I told him that not only will we listen to our music and tap the beat, but we could also use these to help us with reading. They were absolutely confused on how that could help us read.\r\n\r\nOn Thursdays, we have our poetry day where the kids are tapping the rhythm of the poem. They don't even realize that this is helping them become fluent readers. I unwrapped it slowly, building up the suspense of what it could be. They were so excited to see the fish light up water tower. We quickly filled it up with water. They helped me put the fish in it and were amazed when I turned on the light and it started bubbling the fish around. I explained about the Donors Choose program and your generosity. A few days later, a second box arrived with the tactile sensory letters. We added them to our calming corner.\r\n\r\nSadly, many of my kindergarten students don't know how to express the way that they feel using their words. They are overcome with emotion incredibly fast and don't have the strategies to process their feelings.
