They are so excited to be able to make masks in the style of Mesoamerican art! I previewed the project, as well as showed them the supplies, and they cannot wait until May! This is going to be our end of the year project. The 6th graders were initially the students I was going to do this project with, but I added my 7th graders at the last minute. They studied Mesoamerica briefly at the beginning of the school year. After a year of hard work, they are very interested in creating some art to go along with what they have learned.\r\n\r\nThis school year has not been without challenges. Having projects to back up reading about a culture in history is exciting. This year alone, my World History students (6th grade) mummified tomatoes, created their own version of a Greek god or goddess and explored (virtually) the caves at Lascaux. American history has held their own version of the Salem Witch trials, ran campaigns for the election of 1800 and are now exploring the Oregon trail.
