The students who worked on it, got into working with the new materials.\r\n\r\nThe small tiles are very different to work on compared with paper, and the 4.5 inch square makes each student think about their design and how to fit it onto the square. As an end of the year project, being able to work on something different in our daily art classes was ideal.\r\n\r\nStudents made their own tiles and learned about Talevara tile which is super interesting and reflective of the human history that we are continuing to live out today. It is amazing just to walk in the gym and see the proper equipment. I previously had an outdoor volleyball net with polls placed in garbage cans just to be creative. It kind of worked but now we can play a proper game of volleyball. The kids really enjoy that the net because it can be tight and the ball can bounce off it. Also the younger kids have the opportunity to play because I can adjust the net height. I really appreciate the donations and it's making a huge impact on the program. Later in the year I may even use them for Pickleball and I could drop the nets down low. I will send pictures through the donor's choose site. Your generosity did not just stop with my students but it put a sparkle in the eyes of some of the younger grades that come visit our classroom during dismissal. The playdoh was a major hit with the students. They have created everything from cities to happy meals to modeled robots. I have also noticed the fun and positive conversations that are being shared among the students. The team work without having to be directed to do so. \r\n The word building dominoes from Hand2Mind was also a hit in the classroom. I use the product with some of my ELL and lower learner students. The confidence it provided encouraged these individuals to not only read more but write english words with a better understanding and foundation. This was all done through play and the students did not know that it was all intentional instruction. \r\n I just want to concluded this letter with lots of thanks for helping us explore STEM this year in a way I could not have fully imagined.
