One way we support and motivate students is with challenges in reading. Our school uses a program called Accelerated Reading, also known as A.R. in the classroom. We have a points system created that will reward students once they reach a certain amount of points. For example, when a student reaches 5 points they get a fun pencil or when they reach 30 points they get to pick out a free book of their choice or even being able to eat lunch with the principal if you reach 175 points. Most books for my first graders are worth 1/2 a point. These additional books that have been added to our classroom library truly allowed my students to reach their goals. One of my students who repeated first grade was able to reach 167 points in AR! That means they read and passed the comprehension test for at least 334 books this school year. These books are also the reason she was the student with the most points in first grade and earned her AR jacket at the end of the school year. She and I was so excited for her and her accomplishments. She went from a struggling reader to loving to read. Thank you for helping her reach her goals this year.","fullyFundedDate":1735498560808,"projectUrl":"project/nonfiction-books/8856765/","projectTitle":"Nonfiction Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brown","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7198058_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1588194328249","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7198058"},{"teacherId":194350,"projectId":9136263,"letterContent":"Thank you, again, for your generous donation to my DonorsChoose project!
