My students love having new books to read, and I love being able to use stories they are excited about to teach important fourth-grade reading skills. We have been working on things like theme, character perspective, making inferences, using text evidence, vocabulary, and understanding how characters and events change throughout a story. It is so much easier to get kids excited about practicing these skills when they are invested in the book and genuinely want to know what happens next!\r\nReading is a big part of our day, and I really try to make it something my students look forward to. We read together, talk about the characters, make predictions, share our opinions, and sometimes have some pretty funny discussions! I especially love seeing students who don't always choose reading on their own get hooked on a story. There is nothing better than hearing, \"Can we keep reading?\" when it is time to move on to something else.\r\nThank you so much for helping bring these books into our classroom. They are being read, talked about, shared, and most importantly—enjoyed!
